Dreger: "Tavares isn't talking. Pat Brisson isn't going to give you that sort of intel because they're being respectful of the process. But the word that I received from a secondary source, I will call it, was that (JT) was very impressed w/ the Toronto Maple #Leafs." #Isles 1050

Dreger is the biggest Leafs cheerleader and if Tavares or Brisson didn't tell him that then I don't believe a shred of it. What are his Leafs sources going to tell him? "No, we did a terrible job and Tavares thought we were buffoons"

Toronto needs to eat half his salary and I would get him.
Might get Cal and Casey going. I know anyone can play the fourth line but they were pretty dominant when together and the teams bottom 2 lines sucked ass.

Wouldn’t give up much to get him. 4th rounder? Worth a shot.

MM is at Northwell all the time. Has his hockey camp there and the Islanders Alumni and staff help him with his charities. Still has a great relationship with everyone.

Totally agree. They will say that about every team they meet with just out of respect.

Johnston is cheaper, tougher and a little better around the net. He just won't pile up stats for useless hits behind the play.

Yeah I mean, thinking about it logically, I'm sure Tavares & his camp are telling everyone they're very impressed and being polite throughout the whole process. I mean the guy even admits he's not getting it from the horse's mouth and he's known to have a connections inside the Leafs organization. So unless Tavares called up the Leafs today and went out of his way to inform them how impressed he was before the whole process was over...I have an extremely hard time taking that comment at face value.

100%, also the agent and agency have many more clients that will have to deal with these teams moving forward. It’s just something to write about when there’s nothing really there. We will know Thursday to Friday after JTs done with the interview process. Imho the biggest thing Toronto has going for them is JTs Wife is Canadian works in a hospital there and may want to live and bring up their Family there.

I also wouldn't doubt that Dreger was just stirring the pot so TSN has something to talk about

Garth gave out fat contracts to Casey and Cal, and the quality of their play dropped off a cliff. I don't believe it was because they were lost without Martin.

Also, Johnston started off playing on the 3rd line, while Kulemin played on the 4th line. Only after Kulemin got injured did Johnston move to the 4th line.

Just because hes impressed with Toronto doesn't mean he wasnt very impressed with the isles or san Jose, I also find it odd that its Toronto that he loves.......always the leafs no matter what

I can honestly seee him doing that it's his home town. Doesn'tmean hes signing there but you can bet he'll be extra respectful with and towards the Leafs.

Doesn’t matter the Islanders 4th line had Chemistry with Cal,CC and MM.

They were an absolute shat full steaming diaper no matter who played with them last year. Kuli, Ladd or Johnston. Just a fact.
If you can get MM back at 1.2 per and it gets that 4th line back on track you wouldnt do it. Be a cheap fix to a dreadful bottom 6. Lou may very well explore it. You need to have 4 lines rolling in this league to be successful.

Ass should have known.

I don’t see Columbus trading Panarin. Just think it’s posturing by both sides.

Just my opinion and I’m always wrong so there’s that.

Lou was already burned, signing Martin, only to watch him as a healthy scratch for much of last season. Why would he want to import his albatross back across the border. I'm sure he'd rather let his replacement at GM deal with him on the Leafs.

JT would probably love the idea of returning home, but the pressure would be enormous. His own parents would probably not want that for him. Hopefully this gets wrapped up Sunday and we can move on to other moves.

Again there are players that are similar but for what ever reason those 3 clicked as a unit. I like reeves, he could come here and fit in perfectly. You just know what Cal, CC and MM did together. It’s proven. Most teams and free agents find that out the hard way.
