I think he'd have to play a bottom six role because I'm not sure Trotz would put an untested rookie in the top six. Anyone who's called up better be ready to shine in a limited role with limited players to earn more minutes, or it's back to Bport. If it's Kuhnhackle who's scratched, then a forward called up from Bport would probably have to make an impression on that line.

I see fans all over the league argue about stuff like this when it comes to skilled young players trying to break into the league when there's an experienced win-now coach in charge...they're not trusted with big minutes with the top players, but they're miscast in bottom-six roles with players who don't let them show off their skill.

The Isles and the league in general better get over this fear of playing young players. Enough with putting skill players on the 4th line expecting them to show something with lousy players.

My thoughts on that debacle:

1. Pelech was lost on a few of those goals. watching them pass the puck around as he is going a pirouette actually is amusing. He was literally turning around like a figure skater on a couple of their goals including the First and the 4th PP goal.
2. I would love to know why Hickey was at the blue line for the 5th goal.
3. That second goal can't happen.. Greiss has to stop that one.
4. How was the 3rd goal possibly not above the cross bar... wtf?
5. Great shot by Lee on goal 2. He and Casey were only guys that looked good last night.
6. WTF was Komorav doing when he had the puck in front of the net? How long was he going to wait?

I get the idea, though...if a player can't go out there on a fourth line and not be a blatant defensive liability, then he can't be trusted in a larger role. On the other hand, it's tough to put a player on that line and then look at his lack of offensive production and say, "He's been invisible."

I think it's also gone bad for young players that get a ton of minutes on terrible teams and never really learn how to play outside of the offensive zone, so...who the hell knows what the right thing to do is for each player

It's not so much the young player thing, it's the fact that Ho Sang is as much a liability to turn the puck over as he is to create offense.

He was terrible. Worse than usual, and that's saying something.

The problem is it's always something with Isles young players. It's Ho Sang and defense and it's Toews is not strong enough or MDC cannot skate.

That's another reason why I think he'd probably be put with Filppula...to kind of reel in his game a little bit and discourage him from doing some of that riskier stuff. I don't know, I don't think Ho-Sang could really ever survive in a Trotz system. But hell, after the last couple of games of offensive nothing, I wouldn't mind seeing it tried for a couple of games. This offense is on life support right now...they just look mechanical and out of ideas.

We went through the same thing with Nino being on the 4th line all year instead of getting a real shot with JT. Team was going nowhere that year. This team has done a lousy job with developing young talent and Lou and Barry need to do a much better job.

The right thing to do is give a fair shot to skilled players in top 6 roles and especially when you a team that is not a Cup contender. This is not the Isles dynasty team with very little holes on the team.

Well, Nino should have never been in the NHL that season. That was some ridiculous promise Snow made to him for no reason at all and then vowing to be a man of his word.

When greiss gave up that second goal that killed the islanders. That was a bad goal to give up and not for nothing my little league goalie could have stopped that. Time to bench players being players up and see what you have. I have no hatred toward the vets on this team as they have been playing well. I hate to say this but as a punishment I would bench barzal for a game. He is no taking stupid penalties and looks clueless.

Pelech gets me sick when he is on the ice and hickey is he even on this team anymore. Tough spot but they have guys who can give this team a jolt.

Its not just defense. Its poor decisions with the puck. Trotz is a puck control guy. There is no way he's going to call up Ho Sang play given how careless he is with the puck.

Not for nothing but half this team is careless with the puck. So what’s the difference

I would still give Ho Sang a chance and especially with a real coach like Barry. What is the harm? You send Ho Sang back if he is that bad. You are not ruining a Cup team here. The whole point if this year should be finding out about players. It's not like Lou traded both his 1's at the last draft and they are going for it this year.

I totally agree. There is no harm for a game or two to see what you have. I mean these guys might come done and do awesome. The best case is the other guys who are benched for them get going knowing their jobs are on the line

It's like panic in the streets with young players and these coaches. You give players like MDC, Ho Sang, and Toews a real chance and if it's not working and they are that bad you send them back. You cannot sign players like Leo and Fili and give 4 year deals to Johnston and Hickey and bring in Robin and think you are contending.

Out of all them hickey is the worse. Him and pelech always cough up the puck and to me have no value on this team at all

I'd be fine with Hickey if there were two clearly better players on the left side getting most of the minutes. The problem is having Hickey and Pelech on the left side...with the "best" player on the left side being Leddy in his current coma state.

I guess it's kind of the same with our top six forwards...individually, I don't really have a problem with any of them and couldn't say which of them I'd definitely want to get rid of. All together, though, they just seem to be missing something and don't have that punch at the top of the lineup we see from a lot of the teams the Isles play against.

Hickey would be ok as a 3rd pair playing limited minute. It was a very strange offseason in terms of moves by Lou. Isles need to decide if they are rebuilding or if they are going for it. Hard to do both. I still have problems with Nelson, Bailey, and Eberle. They seem to bring nothing else if the offense is not working.

Yeah, but again I think it's more that we have all three. I don't think any of them are terrible top-six options for a team depending upon who the other five forwards are.

This was always gonna be a year in limbo. The Islanders hot start got everyone excited and fair enough, but we all knew there were too many holes and “ifs” on the squad.

Enjoy the wins, lament the losses. Don’t get too worked up and remember that the coaching is better than most, and that the prospect pool is absolutely (frank)ing loaded. Future is bright.

Eberle and Nelson would be my top two guys to ship out. Nelson even though he scored last night goes into this funk where he forgets what hockey is same with Eberle. Both have trade value so maybe we can get needed defense. Also need a goal scorer. To me the islanders are close we just need a couple of upgrades

The mix is just bad. You need players wanting and looking to shot and not just pass. Isles have too many players looking for the fancy play and they are not good during tight checking games.

We hope the prospect pool is loaded and we hope they get a real chance with this team. I just cannot take prospects being put on the 4th line for 4 or 5 minutes a night anymore. I'm changing the channel if I see another offensive prospect put on the 4th line.
