Karl Alzner is skating in his first AHL contest since Game 6 of the 2010 #CalderCup Finals #BELvsLAV

Is Alzner really that bad now? When did that happen?

- UIF

Not sure, but I believe Luke Richardson is now coaching the D in Montreal. I think he is trying to get the D to activate like on Long Island last season, but Alzner has been more of a stay at home-type d-man. Not a good mix....

If you’re not a Montreal fan it’s a great mix😀

late blooming is one thing but not having anything is another. Sure Bailey bloomed later but he always showed tremendous skill with puck. he still put up 30-50 points a season early on.

If the few games you have seen MDC has he at ever impressed you with anything?

Bailey was also a 9th overall not a 5th overall. Lets chalk up Strome, MDC and Reinhart as 3 huge busts.
On the positive side we got Barzal, Beau, Nelson and Pulock all in mid to late first round and they have proven way better.
Lee takes the cake for best find in last 10 years.

- Spartiarti

He didn't hang 40 points until his 7th season. 20-30's, yes.

And yes, the few games I've seen MDC play he's left a big impression with me. mostly, WHERE THE HELL IS MDC?

Top 6 as a whole hasn’t been doing that great but yeah Eberle has been fairly stanky.
- Cptmjl

At least the bottom 6 is making it a little difficult for the opponents to clear the zone. Some good hustle and forechecking. They're battling for the puck. I won't beat the horse about the PP and defense anymore than already has.

The team as a whole at times plays a much better defensive game. I think the main problem is consistency at this point. We’ll get a good period and two bad ones or five minutes here or there. Sometimes that’s enough to win if our goaltender is having a good game but over a season it’ll catch up to you. If Trotz can get these guys to be a little more consistent they can surprise. Obviously Trotz is a capable coach I think the main question is does he have enough talent in this group to get good consistent play or does the lack of talented depth make that almost impossible over the course of a season?

It's hard to think with the defense and goaltending that the Isles can stay in the race all year. I think Robin plays tonight but he has not been looking good. I think the team will have to make some moves soon or at least give Toews and others a look.

This season seems to be about evaluating what they have. Trotz will see who will fit in and who can't/won't and have Lou trade them for someone who will and/or assets. I still think Lou wants this teams' version of Brodeur/Schneider.

Whether it's Sorokin or someone else, Goalie needs to be wrapped up this offseason. Isles also need to lock down 2C whether it's Nelson or someone else.

I agree with this and try to temper my expectations but as a fan it’s tough when they are winning a few games. Ultimately I don’t think Lou is making a play for immediate help this season unless we really take off in the standings which I have my doubts is going to happen. At this point I see Eberle as a goner and maybe Nelson. Lee I imagine they’ll do everything in their power to lock up but in the end overall we’re sellers before and at the trade deadline.

Goalie is one of those positions that’s an ongoing black hole for a lot of teams. Tough area to fill just ask the Flyers...

Seems like Hart should be the answer, but that's still a few years out

It's tough and it has been especially for the Isles. They need to find out about Sorokin or move on.

I move Eberle even if the Isles are in a playoff spot. Hopefully Bellows will be ready. I would probably move Nelson as well and keep Lee.

Seems that way but who knows really? It’s a position that seems incredibly hard for anyone to peg down a definitive can’t miss prospect. Get as close as you can to one and hope for the best.

I would think that’s the plan even disregarding his current play. I can’t see Lou giving him a long term deal and a raise on his existing contract but who knows?

I think it would be a mistake to sign Eberle long term. Hopefully Lee gets signed soon.

CAR waived Valentin Zykov. Don't know a ton about him but his AHL numbers are very good. That would be an interesting claim.

He’s mine.

Very much a value pickup. I can’t believe the Canes waived him.
