I agree their net presence has been non existent for a while now. One of the reasons why I have a hard time watching Clutterbuck out there the guy literally serves no purpose he offers nothing to the power play in fact he’s a liability 100% of the time so far. He’s not in front of the net which I can only assume is what the point of him being there to begin with. It’s never worked in the past it’s not working now I get Trotz doesn’t have much to work with but it was time four games ago to give someone else a shot there imo. He has single handily malfunctioned a power play that doesn’t need help with that multiple times the last few games it has become hard to watch.

“A couple of them, we had trouble getting in the zone,” captain Anders Lee said. “It looks brutal and it’s frustrating to watch but we had some good chances

Must have been taking a sip of my beer when that happened😂

I agree that Bailey on the whole has been pretty good this year. But last night (and often in other games) I just wish he'd start his checks, let alone finish them. He rarely takes the body, even when the situation calls for it. I'm not looking for him to turn into Tom Wilson, but he's a pretty big guy who plays small.

I’m just hoping he can stop passing to opposing teams players a little more😂.

The guy is having a great season he has been playing great but man his give aways are like face palm moments sometimes😂

I'm counting on Trotz to light a fire under Bailey to get him going on a more consistent basis, both on the PP and 5 on 5 as a Top 6 forward. As the 3rd highest paid forward on the team, Bailey's contributions are essential to the team's success. If he doesn't get going soon, we'll be back to playing ......... http://www.tankathon.com/nhl

Again, he’s playing great for the most part but when it goes bad for him it seems real bad. Just the kind of player he is and always has been but it’s hard to pull apart his game when he has done more positive than anything. Barzal needs to get going also I think it’s a combination of Trotz learning what he’s got in these guys and the players getting away from bad habits the last two chimps drilled into their heads. Going to take some time but please fix the power play. When your captain is describing it as hard to watch you know it’s bad.😂

Not sure if there’s a great combination of two lines to work with (due to personnel or lack there of) if not pour all the talent into one and go for it spreading it out isn’t working... Or get Panarin🤪

Yes, to be clear, I've been pleasantly surprised by Bailey's play for the most part. But we've seen stretches of good play from him before, only to see him retreat into invisibility. If the Isles are going to make the playoffs this season, Bailey has to be one of the guys leading them there.

Teams are on to him. Those tight fast curls he does don't create much space anymore. Defenders are looking for it. He's still playing pretty darn well with 20 points in 23 games. He just not making as many people look silly like he did last year.

The guy I want to see get going is Ebs. They're 1/4 of the way through the season and he's on pace to have his worst season in the NHL. His agent needs to remind him he's playing for a new contract.

I agree the top six as a whole is underperforming somewhat if they start to click more consistently this team may surprise. Barzal still can make opposing players look stupid to me he seems to be over thinking instead of just doing like he has in the past. Trotz has said he’s trying to develop his defensive game which could be making the kid second guess himself. Growing pains for now but hopefully he’ll come out of it a better player for it. Worked for Ovechkin.

Agreed the top six as a whole will have to be kicking arse for that to happen not just bailey of course.

im not a make excuse guy but Isles did have 4 games in 6 nights. I think win in Boston makes it all fine which will also be a very tough game.

It crazy how tight the division is. 4 points from top and 4 points from out of playoffs. Trotz is reminding them they need to keep foot on the gas and that Winning is not easy.

Totally agree, Barzal is now a marked man - we need others to step up. That said Barzal has plenty of opportunities to take more shots that he doesnt.

Ebs is playing well but very true has not produced.

my christmas wish is Pulock just hits the freaking net. (he was doing it in preseason)

Despite outplaying them for most of game, You cant beat the Stanley cup champs going 0-4 on PP. Only guys that have been good on PP are Barzal, Bailey, Nelson and Lee. Everyone else has sucked.

Clutterbuck needs to go. 25 games on PP unit and 1G? not working.

Its odd b/c when i watch isles PP move puck around, im say wow it looks so good. Why cant these guys bury a puck.

It also would help if Pulock can hit the freaking net. I mean its getting annoying watching a 100+mph shot go 3 ft wide or hitting one of his teammates.

Making the MDC comparison to Bailey or Bertuzzi couldnt be more wrong. For starters, Bailey went to NHL as a 18 year old (which he has no business doing). For a 6M a year player is worth every sent and along with Nelson have been two best players in the post JT era. Ill take it one step further and say Bailey might be only guy that looks great on PP this year.
Bertuzzi was 23rd overall pick not a Number 5. He produced he just didnt play with an edge as Islander. i remember the day clearly. Bertuzzi backed down for a fight with Vincent Damphouse from Canadiens (a guy that never fights) and milbury traded bertuzzi the very next day. His quote was "i tried everything except putting splints under his fingernails to get this guy to play hard" Trading bertuzzi was just another feather in Milburys horrible tenure.

- Spartiarti

The point, which you obviously missed, is that it took those guys years before becoming the players they are/were known for. MDC is probably a bust. I won't argue with anyone on that. He might however be a late bloomer. Just like Bailey. Just like Bert.
So you're point is that because Bails came into the league as an 18 year old, it took him 8 years to get to the point where he is now? Don't get me wrong, I agree he should have had some minor league time. But to sit there and say it took him 8 years to break out because of the age he entered the NHL is ridiculous. A better argument would have been the management that was supposed to develop him him. *cough-Snow-cough*

As soon as you put that "but" there, you made an excuse. Every team has to play those same schedules. Yet somehow the better teams win the games.
I give Trotz a lot of credit. He's doing really well with the limited talent he's got.

Just reading about the mess in LA and Kovalchuk's recent lack of playing time. Curious if you guys think he might be worth a shot if LA retained some of his salary and he agreed to be traded (has a full no trade)? Our PP could use his shot, but he's 35. I have not seen him play since returning to the NHL, but I wonder if Trotz could work his magic with him. What would we give up for him? Just spitballin.

Interesting idea was unaware he was struggling getting ice time. Seems kind of strange that he’s leading in points and playing six minutes a night. There’s a history there between him and Lou and you would have to believe LA is thinking rebuild at this point...

He can score, but his age, cap hit and foot speed are concerning. If the Islanders offer to take him, they should do so in the belief that they’re doing LA a favour and send a poopty contract of lesser cap back.

So Clutterbuck and a 2nd.

Maybe they would want their old 1st round pick who now wears the same number as his draft position
