Exactly right chief. This is why it's dumb to automatically write off MDC. There are late bloomers.

In fairness, I think Rick is just saying that he doesn't see it as likely that he turns into a full-time NHL'er. Despite his good start, I can't argue too much with the odds. But for all the crap we've given him, he deserves to at least be recognized for his strong start to this year. I hope he kills it if they get him into some games.

No question the odds are not good for MDC. I would play him next game and play him in the top six.

Well, my power went out right as Nelson tied it in the first. So....it was fun "watching" the game through twitter.

they need just trade JHS already. If you arent going to bring him up then get something for him.

I cant believe people are still discussing Da Colle. The kid is a bust. Call a spade a spade.

3 players pick in top ten in 2010-14 NHL draft have never been in NHL as regulars. McIlrath, Griffin Reinhardt and Dal Colle. Two of them were islanders picks. How snow was able to flip Reinhardt for what turned to be Barzal/Beau draft is amazing.

Didnt you just tell us that the coach and gm know more than we do? If they want mdc up theres probably a reason

Hey look at Bailey, took him what...8 years before he finally started to figure it out? Never say never.
- eichiefs9

I honestly think that Josh Bailey was grossly mismanaged from inception to this organization. Listening to Lou Lam and Trotz speak to the media really proves how the prior regime literally didn’t know what they were doing. We as fans have endured a tremendous amount of suck

Anyone who gets drafted high like MDC OBVIOUSLY has talent. His developement has been stunted as seen by his failure to dominate or at the very least put up good numbers at the pro level in the A (until now). My biggest issue with him is his skating and the multiple off seasons he’s has to strengthen his stride. I know it’s a ba word around here but Tavares after season one came back a MUCH stronger skater. I’d like to see MDC do the same as i feel that’s what’s keeping him from the NHL

No argument about that, but the same assbags that mismanaged Bailey were in charge of handling Dal Colle, too.

I think the days of suck are slowly becoming a thing of the past. I still think it'll be 4-5 years before we are, potentially, any sort of real serious contender for anything.

I thought it was mentioned recently MDC lost weight and it has really helped his game this year? I know he should have been a quality NHL player already with where he was drafted but again he is 22 not 30 and it makes sense to give him a look as it's not impossible he can still be a useful NHL player and if not the Isles move on.

That's a 36pt pace.

Listen it's great the Islanders are playing mostly well, but Komarov isn't a good hockey player.

- eichiefs9

Chief, he's doing his job out there. Great on the PK, defensively responsible, forechecks and takes the body when it's there, not to mention he has chipped in offensively as well. He's not going to dazzle anyone out there but he's going to go out game after game and do his job.
The same can be said for the other disastrous signings Lou made this off season. Team needed a change and no matter what anyone says there is a change in game plan, execution, attitude and accountability and it's working.

Do you think goalie is the biggest lack that will cause it to take 4-5 years? Isles seem loaded on D and wing and center needs a lot of work. I'm hoping within 3 years the Isles can contend but it may take 4-5 years.

Thompson seems to think his skating is fine and it's more that he has to keep moving his feet:

Thompson has never knocked Dal Colle’s skating itself.

“He’s a fine skater. He gets there, and I think his hockey sense, he reads the play well, anticipates, and if he does keep moving his feet, he has the ability to get there,” Thompson said.
https://www.ctpost.com/so...Sound-Tigers-13361267.php

I'd argue it's kind of obvious that he needs to do both: improve his overall skating and keep moving his feet, but if the coaches are telling him his skating is fine, he's probably going to focus on other areas more than his stride during the offseason...

I think they need to shed some, or all, of the awful deals that are on the books as well as have some roster turnover. I won't rehash each individual bad contract, but most of them will expire in the next 3-5 years, freeing up some space. Goaltending obviously needs to be addressed, but the hope is that Sorokin comes over next season and fixes that problem internally. Bobrovsky isn't exactly making a case for us to give him a lucrative deal next year, and he's playing behind a very talented defense, and it scares me to think about what a big deal for him could leave our cap situation looking like.

I would make a full court press for Sorokin to come over next year. Greiss would be a great backup and mentor for Sorokin. I would not bring in Bob. Isles need a young goalie like Sorokin they can hopefully rely on for years.

Seems like we'll have a better idea this offseason. Most of what I've seen reported is that, if he's going to come, we'd have to wait until he had a year left on his deal and buying himself out would be more realistic. So in about ~7-8 months we'll hopefully find out that he's leaving CSKA for NYI.

I like the idea of bringing in Bob, I'm just afraid that they'll overpay in terms of dollars AND length...and that scares me. Bob and Sorokin grew up right near each other in Russia and if that helps get Sorokin over here, there's more to the deal than just the cap implications, but it still has to be a reasonable contract.

Bob on a reasonable contract and if it helps with Sorokin then great. The problem is Bob will most likely look to get paid. isles need to stay away from anymore Ladd type contracts.

Between injuries, poor playoff performances, and a bad start to this year....I'm leaning towards "no thanks" on Bobrovsky.

Not sure if it was on purpose but Clutterbuck's comments give you the idea Weight had no idea what he was doing last year
