I know the rivalry isn’t what it used to be, but is an isles/rags game a good game to get MDC in the lineup? For me, I’d rather see Johnson for this game. They’re always chippy check finishing games. I’d rather go with the physicality.

The Rangers are a young fast team this year and the coach has them flying around the ice. They are going to fly around our 3rd and 4th line like we are standing still. That said I thing Johnson is faster than MDC but I would not call either of them fast.

Del colle needs to be on barzals line when he gets his chance. Speed isnt the grearest but he possesses a great shot
- Upstate_isles

Barzal and MDC would be the new Trotts and Bossy.

Our D sucks though, other than Pionk and Skjei, and they are still trying to figure out team defense. You guys get the forecheck going, have a feeling its going to be a long night for the Rangers.

No offense to the Rangers but the Isles cannot be afraid to play MDC against the Rangers or anyone else. This is not a Cup or bust season for the Isles. They need to look at as many young players as possible.

I’m talking about now that he’s actually putting up numbers and opening up eyes. He’s clearly doing something right to be having success at the pro level that he’s not really had. The new regime is most def the reason. I would rather keep his confidence and start him next game but that’s just me.

My reasoning for sitting him tonight has nothing to do with winning or losing the game. I’m more concerned with MDC confidence level. Confidence is the impetus behind success. Dal Colle doesn’t have “many lives” left, so I’d ratger give him the best chance at success.

MDC is going well now and he should be playing tonight and with Barzal. Isles not showing confidence in young players has not worked in the past. Lou and Barry need to do the complete opposite of Garth, Cappy, and Doug.

It seems a lot of teams won't put in a young guy they bring up in a rivalry game for some odd reason. I would think it would be a perfect game to see what he has. It's not like the old rivalries where you have to constantly look around or you get your head taken off.

I mean we have 1 guy who can fight and he does it awfully. He might not even be in the lineup. I could see a chippy game, but nothing out of control or dangerous.

I would think confidence would come from the coach showing confidence in him...in addition to being called up and wanting to get out there immediately and run through a wall to prove himself. Confidence shouldn't be an issue for him.

I don't think it's much more complicated than the coach making decisions based on what he thinks gives him the best chance to get a W tonight, with any other concern a very distant second. He knows what he has with Johnston and what to expect, while Dal Colle just got here five minutes ago. Maybe Trotz wants a couple more days to see what he has up close before trusting Dal Colle with minutes. Heck, maybe he just wanted him on the ice a little longer today to work on something and it doesn't necessarily even mean he'll be scratched...I don't think we've gotten the lineup tonight yet.

That was a good read...I don't know if it's Staple being able to do more at the Atlantic, Trotz being a lot more interesting and in-depth about what he says to the press, or both, but we haven't had stories like this, that actually explain stuff to us, in ages.

Trotz seems to be really high on Leddy and attributes his struggles mostly to Leddy being willing to take a different approach to playing defense.

“I give him a lot of credit. He’s trying to improve as a player, he’s not settled in, thinking he’s been in the league a few years and he’s fine, leave me alone, I know what I’m doing. It’s not like that,” Trotz said. “He’s trying to engage, he’s taken to heart that he’s going to be one of the top defenders in the league. He’s got too much ability to just sit back.”

- UIF

Agree UIF, Looking at Leddy he skates extremely well and you can't coach that. However you take that skill set and mold it to play the right way on both sides of the puck and you have an extremely quick mobile defenseman. Unfortunately for him I don't think he was ever taught the structure Trotz is asking them to play under. I think they give him time and if he excels great if not then I could see a trade coming.
With Toews learning the system in BP it would be nice to have 2 guys that can skate like that on the back end whenever he gets the nod.

I'd rather have both of them back there unless there's a capable d-man coming back in any Leddy trade. I don't really see how the D is much better with Toews-Pelech-Hickey on the left side rather than Leddy-Pelech-Hickey. Even if Toews hits the ground running and needs no adjustment period, it'll most likely be Pelech or Hickey getting Leddy's top-pair minutes anyway rather than gifting that role immediately to a rookie seeing his first ever NHL minutes.

Leddy and Toews both in the top four, with Pelech and Hickey alternating on the third pair, sounds better to me than whatever they cobble together without Leddy.

I agree, unless of course he ( Leddy ) just doesn't figure it out. Then it might just be time to let him loose.

What the (frank) happened to Leddy? Looked like an allstar his 1st year with you guys.
Still has his legs but looks like his brain disappeared

Honestly mdw, I think that's his biggest problem. Easy to play when there are no rules or structure.

You figure coming from Chicago and Q Leddy would not have such trouble?
