I was wondering how many times Barzal and Leddy could pass back and forth to each other on one power play without passing to anyone else or shooting. It was six times on one PP last night😂

PP has been bad it’s not even a debate.

oh but Cpt.. they are really making that pk move side to side...you know thats the goal of the pp lmfao

Getting the pk off kilter is a great plan but unfortunately you have to shoot the puck to have it go in that goal thing.

Thats what i have been arguing with the last few posts but some don't get that... they think you just keep playing hot potato and it magically goes in the net. and the predictable nature of isles pp is something you shouldn't mess with cause it could make it worse then it already is .

Trotz doesn’t have the horses that’s really the main problem. You see Clutterbuck out there and Filppula and it Makes that pretty clear.

i bet if you look at shot production on the pp... you wouldn't be laughing. a bunch of pass first shot last players on 1st pp... and yes cpt i would agree he doesn't have the horses but you could structure the units better, to at least make it better then what it is now.. Leddy or Barzal has to come off that 1pp unit.

i love it when the facts get in the way just make an asinine statement.. why not nelson on barzals side then leddy can dish to bailey or nelson... get the puck on net and give lee a chance at either a deflection or rebound.

Just taking Barzal off the 1st PP unit makes no sense. I think your Pal Cpt would agree with me on that or maybe not.

We will just agree to disagree.

I would think you and i could agree Nelson has been playing much better hockey...arguably the best hockey i have seen him play since becoming and islander... why not give him a shot on that 1 pp unit...or if you don't want barzal off that unit how about the structure of the unit... why not have barzal up top and put ebs on the left side for the shot and have 2 up top... ebs is worthless below the net... the only thing he can do is pass.. too easy to take that away. once the puck is down low.. they don't move the puck fast enough to make that play work out

Yep. Shockingly, they didn't score - went 0/4. I can't remember the last time the Isles had a dominant PP.

We can agree on Nelson I think he will be consistent this year too.

Barzal needs to be on the half wall as it gives him the most options.

wow never thought of that...hmmm coulda fooled me.. guess them making the same passes every game is really working well... and only bailey making that same shot from the circle every game is really working well... they know barzal has not taken many shots on his side he loves to pass it through the middle to bailey... but no i know i am so wrong on this too

2 for 23 in the last 5 or so games... but no problem on the pp none at all

- theguy

Most nhl powerplays are set up like this as its the hardest to defend and barzal is in the feeder role just like backestrom. They need to move a bit more and not be so stagnant. A true sniper would help but they dont possess one yet or until bellows del colle or wahlstrom are ready

Barzal is hands down the best playmaker on the team thats why. Pulock should be swapped with leddy but the other 4 belong there

Ok theguy, you have a shooter up top and on the one side so that the d cant cover them both. The idea is to move the puck around until one gets open for a quality shot. The caps do this with ovie and Carlson and its what they are trying to to. Honestly they need to move it quicker and have the passes be right in the guys wheelhouse as some have been a bit off killing the shot. But no barzal shouldn't be up top, name one powerplay where the playmaker is up top

I understand the concept. One big thing is it ins't working... when things don't work you change... otherwise its the definition of insanity...do you think Leddy is more like carlson or pulok... heck i would say boychuck has a better shot then leddy. and i can't stand boychuck... big problem with this style is block shot from the point and its a breakaway for pk. watching colorado tonight they got the same style except they rotate.. barzal would come to top ebs to circle and as puck comes back to their side they rotate back down to support play.. worked much better

I didn’t say that though I don’t disagree with giving Pulock a shot on the first pp unit even though his offensive game has been lacking so far. I think if you’re seeing flipulla and Clutterbuck out there what’s the harm in giving Pulock a shot (no pun intended)? I get that Leddy is out there for his zone entries and removing him may counteract that a bit but between Barzal and even Pulock we should be fine in that category imo. Have to try something different can’t keep doing the same thing or shuffle 4th liners in expecting a miracle.

I saw the point in giving Filppula a shot on the pp he has been pretty good so far but he looked disjointed out there which goes back to my original point of Trotz not having the players/depth to construct two pp lines.

That's exactly it. He's trying to patchwork together 2 PP lines that might work. There's a lot of talk about the PP being too predictable. Yes it is, but where does Ovi set up every single PP. Everybody knows where he'll be. How many goals does he get from that spot? The Isles just don't have the personnel to man 2 solid PP lines. I do think things need to change and Trotz needs to design it around the strengths of the players he's got. Maybe throw Ladd-Nelson-Beau for the 2nd PP with Hickey (i can't believe I just typed that) & Pulock. Let Ladd or Nelson get in front, cycle, rotate and try to create shooting lanes. Don't know, I'll leave it up to Trotz but he's got to do something. Otherwise, it's just like Crappy and/or Weight running this team. And no, I'm not saying that Trotz is a bad coach. Not at all.
