There are some teams that are going to shot from everywhere. Also if you look at who the Islanders played against so far, The Preds, Sharks, Canes and Pens all 2 x's I think these teams are probably the highest or close to shot producing and potent offenses in the NHL.

Looking at results and again the teams they have played you have to be very pleased and have to think Trotz will address the quality/danger area shots against. If you jam up the crease and block shots and keep the shots from outside with the goalies having clean looks its like playing catch. They can have as many of those shots as they want.

The key to this season was keeping the GA down because this team has the talent to score. So far so good.

Canes are #1 in ShotsFor/GP. Sharks #2, Pens #13, Preds #24

Isles are second-to-last in ShotsFor/GP, but Trotz won the Cup last year having the team with the fewest shots in the league over the course of the season.

I like filppula so far and for the record I didnt have an issue with him as its a one year deal. Komorov at 4 is still a bit much and they are a blackhole on possession however filpulla has made some really nice plays and is good on pk. He also saw 2 or 3 shifts in ot last night and regrouped even leaving the o zone. In the past guys turned it over there for the isles and its like Trotz told them maintain possesion while we get a line change like every other team does. So hard to get the puck 3 on 3 better to keep it, sonfar I like the filppula and lehner signings as show me deals and martin seems to do well here.

Flipulla to me has been a pleasant surprise so far. As usual I’ll say hopefully he can keep it up but he has been positionally sound and flashes some offense here and there.

Wasn't there someone who kept saying that Cizikas and Clutterbuck could play on scoring lines?
- eichiefs9

I remember people saying cizikas should be the 2 center

This is what valiquette post was about quality over quantity. Also weight said let the goalies see the pucks and Trotz has them blocking anything they can ......

I hear a lot of complaining about Bellows not being here, but he's 1g-2a-3pts in 9gp in Bridgeport. The reality is that he hasn't earned the right to be here yet and he's not exactly lighting the world on fire down in the AHL. He is where he belongs right now and that's totally fine, all part of the process.

There is a perfectly reasonable argument for Toews being here, however. But hard to argue anything on a 4-game win streak.

- eichiefs9

I do think Bellows needs more time at Bridge then again I do not believe Thompson is the right coach. Team keeps winning and Toews will stay put.

Again, if a goalie can see it and its from outside, they can have as many of those shots as they want. Making a goalie move from side to side, screening and not being able to square up that's the kind of shots you want. Also obviously the odd man rush situations are going to kill you. The Islanders have capitalized on their opportunities and most of them were quality chances and not soft goals.
Again nice to see the team buying into Barry's plan and finding success.

He probably needs a full year there and that's fine. I expect to have a bit more of a scoring 3rd line next season, if he makes the team.

I'm really interested to see what happens with Wahlstrom next year, as well. Statistics-wise, he's off to a slow start. 1g, 0a in 4gp with BC...but BC has been absolutely atrocious this season so I attribute some of his lack of scoring to that. Still somewhat concerning. Pronman seemed to think he'd be one-and-done in college and if they can get him into the AHL after his year at BC that would be great depth to have available.

Oh yeah, 100%. Wasn't disagreeing, just posting the actual numbers. Shoot from outside the dots all day long, I'll take that any day.

Never stopped smoking that thing. If there’s something positive to discuss I will discuss it. I’m not saying Flipulla is some game changer but he’s better than I expected so far.

Filly is a tougher Frans. Filly with Bellows could be interesting.

- ses111

Bellows would have to really up his defensive game given the assignments that line draws, but yeah...a guy with a decent shot on one side and a guy who can dig along the boards on the other was what I had in mind.

100%I know.

I was surprised to see the Preds at #24. I guess they too look for the quality over quantity because those boys can score.

I recall someone saying Cizikas was really a 2C. Can’t recall who said it though.

No need to rush Bellows at this point. Toews obviously would not be rushed if he is called up. Going to be very interesting to see where the Isles are at the All-Star break in terms of possible moves. I can see moves happening before the trade deadline this year.

I can’t believe there’s even a sniff of negativity with Cizikas. He’s a winner. He was the reason the isles scored, having blocked a shot on the PK and then head manning off the boards for the breakaway. I think people on here get extremely caught up in the fact that he was a “4th line” center under capuano and weight. He can play and he plays the right way.
