That scares me more than anything. Injury-prone guy that is already 30 and going to cost a ton of money. I agree with you that they'll probably be in on him, but I think they're getting way ahead of themselves. To me that screams that they're misidentifying the current state of the team and thinking that they are way closer to competing than they actually are.

Yeah I understand your concern for sure, and rightfully so.
Fact is We need true #1 and he's probably the best available as a FA where you lose 0 prospects/picks to obtain him. That said I would like to see how he plays this year as far as injuries and performance. Typically with Goalies, 30 isn't what it is for skaters imho. True #1 top goalies in the NHL have played well into their 30's and have been pretty consistent.
At the end of the day I think The BJ's will sign him which leaves the Islanders very little as far a choices to upgrade between the pipes.
Hopefully Lehner can become a true number 1 and we don't have to worry about it.
Greiss as it looks now isn't going to be that consistent guy your team can depend on.

Off to a pretty bad start so far. 3GP, 1-2-0 with 4.39GAA and .860sv%.

Totally agree that 30 isn't the same for goalies as it is for skaters. Someone did a study not that long ago and it showed that, typically, 34-35 is the age where goalies start to see a noticeable decline.

To be clear, I'd be more than fine signing Bob for 2-4 years...I just hope they don't go out and give him a max-term deal for 7 years. That would be a disaster. I just have concerns that he'll stay healthy and that he has, historically, been terrible in the playoffs.

Now, yeah. He would have still made that $2M the Islanders signed him for had he stuck with the organization. Doesn't sound like it's about money for him.

If kovar goal was to make NHL and he couldnt make the Islanders what makes him think he can make the Bruins?

Probably would be good for a) getting Sorokin over here and b) helping him acclimate to North America a bit.

They're from cities in Russia that are only about an hour apart, so I would imagine they're at least somewhat familiar with each other.

I was actually thinking that was part of the theory behind Komarov's contract.

Yeah, I thought the fact that Komarov speaks like 49 languages, including Russian, had a part to play in signing him for that exact reason. But I would imagine a fellow-Russian would be an even better draw for Sorokin.

That was one reason why I thought The Islanders are going to be on him if he becomes a FA. Besides the obvious of him being a hell of a lot better than what we have/had.

Yeah that too. If they try and sign him for that reason, then I can't imagine that they're going to sign him for particularly long. No point in signing Bob to a 5 year deal when Sorokin is already 24.

True, however if they want Bob, being a FA your going to probably give higher $$$ or longer term than you want to. Although being he's a FA then of course you don't have to give up any assets so theres a trade off if you will. I think they also want to sign him because of his play and track record.
Again I have a feeling The BJ's are going to sign him. If not it will be very interesting how things play out and where he winds up.

Ah. Thus going by my rough history of Eastern Europe, I can suppose he suffers from an acute case of self loathing.
