I really liked Aho last year, I thought he fit in really well for never having played in prior. I couldn't find a reason that guys like Pelech should have stuck on the roster over him, he wasn't perfect but he looked much better than them to me.
- eichiefs9

Aho showed promise last year. Leddy Pulock Toews and Aho. You are talking serious speed and some talent on D. I would have let Hickey walk and would never have signed Sbisa. This should be a year you look at as much young talent as possible. Bringing in guys like Martin, Leo, and Filppula is very strange.

Martin is a great guy but it made no sense bring him back. Johnston is younger, cheaper, and is better. The system will be much better this year along with the effort but the talent is just not there.
- ses111

Yep, that's what I think this season will show. But, building the foundation with the system and effort will be worth it. I think we've kind of had it the other way for the last five or so years...teams that had some decent talent that was wasted with crap systems and inconsistent effort. At least this way, once some better players are hopefully brought in through trades and prospect development, the team should be ready to take off.

I also don't think the effort will be wasted every game like it was last night. We'll get a better idea of what this team's going to be this year when the schedule gets a little more normal and they start playing their Eastern rivals. But, yeah, it looks like the Isles will have to work harder for their goals than other teams and will pay more for their mistakes.

Sbisa at least goes away after this year, at the latest. The Hickey deal isn't crippling, but the length is kinda stupid. In a year or two he'll probably be somewhat easy to dump for cheap to a contender that wants a 6th/7th defenseman for the playoffs.

Just like Sbisa, at least Filppula goes away after this year. Martin's deal only has this season + 1 left on it so it's not terrible, but I still didn't get the move. Komarov deal is just inexplicably stupid and I don't understand it at all.

Let's hope some of these guys go away and Lou and Barry do not bring them back. I've said many times I'd rather bring back Quine or Prince on a one year deal than give Leo 4.

No question this dopey schedule has not helped. I still want more youth and speed on the roster. Ducks seem to have some nice young talent on that team.

I have a feeling when Trotz and Lou are done evaluating the vast majority of crap on this roster you’ll see a youth movement by December.

It's been said already, but this is probably just a guilt-free evaluation year for the front office. I would hope that, once the season ends, they purge some of the trash off this roster. Wahlstrom is probably going to be one-and-done at BC and will push for a roster spot. Bellows will almost certainly push for a roster spot. They're going to have to decide if Ho Sang is an NHL player or not, but if they keep him then he is probably going to make a case for a roster spot as well. If they find a 2nd line center then the wings will be young, talented guys that should eventually settle in as scoring depth, or better. But it's going to be hard for them to do that with plugs like Clutterbuck/Martin/Komarov in the way and Ladd's reanimated rotten corpse slithering itself around the ice.

He had 1 less assist and about half as many points as super-hyped college UFA Jimmy Vesey did last year, despite the fact that Vesey played 57 more games.

So suck on a hypodermic needle Jersey Shore boy

We need just one of our goaltender prospects to pan out to. I’ll be happy with that at this point because that hasn’t happened since Loungo and we know that story😂

Problem is there aren't usually any #1 goaltenders available via trade and if there is one available, they are probably going to cost a lot in terms of assets.

I think if Bob doesn't sign with The BJ's like it or not, the Islanders will be in on trying to bring him here.

Good article below on the Nylander/Leaf situation.
