No but The islanders being in Cap trouble is the farthest thing from my mind

Fact is if Trotz thought any of his prospects were better or could do a better job than any of the Guys on The Islanders they would be playing. The (frank)ing contract means nothing. Fielding the best team does imho. A non issue all around. Rubbish really

Thats my contribution to this discussion. Carry on.

- nyisles7

Contracts most certainly play into who stays with the big club and who gets sent down. It's not the only consideration, but it's absolutely one of them. If Toews required waivers to get sent down, would they have risked trying to get him to Bridgeport through waivers or would he have made the team instead? That's a decision made in part because of his contract and the flexibility they have with it.

Sure, but you can say that about literally anything on earth. The facts are that the cap has been poorly managed. Is it fixable? Yes. Can things change and correct themselves? Yes.

But if every discussion in the world ends with "well so much might change so it's not even worth discussing" then what's the point of even talking about anything? It's a concern for now. If and when it stops being a concern, then that's great.

So much will change with this roster before that happens that nobody has any idea how it will effect the lineup or how much cap space they have left by the time this scenario comes around. For all we know half these guys might not even be here

100% Agree. Not to mention Trotz will field the best team no matter what contract what player has.

OK, then go ahead and explain to me what's not concerning about $14M tied up in Cizikas, Clutterbuck, Johnston, Pelech, and Mayfield for an average of nearly the next four seasons?

I've been vehemently trying that for probably the last 15 years and still no luck. I don't think it works.

I'm really not trying to get on your case or drag this out for another 5 pages, but none of that is relevant to what we were discussing.

I'm not saying any of those guys should be on the roster right now. Just that in the future, it's going to be really, really tough for our good defensive prospects to find an NHL roster spot with the Islanders because of the way the cap was/is managed. That's all. Because everyone will be screaming and yelling about it if/when it happens.

I'm tired of explaining Johnston's contract to you over and over. They can send him down with no cap hit so he is irrelevant to this conversation yet all you do is bring him up every time The other guys were Snow's mistake and has nothing to do with the new guys. Nobody is saying there aren't bad contracts on this roster but they have nearly 10 million in cap space with Kovar being terminated. Everybody knows there is going to be another buy out window in the next few years when the CBA runs out. Trades that can be made etc etc. Listen just because its one the things you constantly bring up that might happen down the road doesn't mean its actually going to happen.

At what point did I blame any of this on the current regime? The point was that the Islanders are in a concerning situation. That's it. You have no actual proof that there will definitely be a CBA buyout window. Speculation is speculation and nothing more.

Trades can be made, but if you really think anyone wants to give up assets to get a a scrub with 3 years and almost $10M left on their deal then I think you're huffing some of the stuff Dundee took 20 years ago that melted his feeble brain.

As far as fielding the best Team, if Trots thought Toews was a better option than Mayfield then Devon would have started up here, or any of the other terrible D man that are playing up here. Agree Toews being Waiver exempt comes into play, but again if Trotz, feels/felt he can do a better job than what we have. He would be up here. These contracts aren't going to block anyone. Thats what the conversation was.

As far as these contracts blowing up our Cap? Its a non issue for me and more importantly the Islanders imho.

Just like you have no actual proof that they will be in cap hell in a few years right? Teams make trades every year to get rid of cap problems so can the Isles and until the day actually comes when they lose somebody because of a bad contract I can't be bothered with this nonsense. When those so called D prospects will be ready outside of Toews the Pelechs and Mayfields of the world will have maybe 1 or 2 years left and thus makes it just a little easier to trade if need be or since they are dirt cheap you can just bury them in the minors with a minimal cap hit.

You're right, I have no actual proof. That's because you keep putting words in my mouth. At no point did I say "the Islanders will be in cap hell in a few years". I said I have concerns, given the current state of the organization.

Listen you keep worrying about 3 or 4 years down the road Let's move onto the next topic. Does Lou take the extra 2 million he got from Kovar leaving and try to make another move or just hold onto it and sit back and see where this team is in a couple of months before deciding to do something? Also Eberle has been basically invisible since being moved off Barzal's line and Beau is off to a slow start as well
