Who is the better 8th dman? They are 8th for a reason like I said they all suck. They aren't blocking anybody because they are already at the bottom of the barrel. Don't even mention any of the prospects down in BP either. You don't bring them up to sit or play once every 3 or 4 games for 10 minutes a night. That's why you have crappy guys like this around so the prospects can develop the right way

I just don't believe as much has changed as most people believe. Maybe I'm wrong but, outside of landing Trotz, Lou really hasn't done anything positive. I'm still not ready to drink the Kool-Aid just yet.

He said back in my day guys spent 2 3 years in the minors, isnt it still his day if hes still a gm? Scary statement

Maybe Lou deserves more then a couple of months don't you think? He took over the team a few weeks before the draft for christ sakes. I trust Lou a lot more then anybody the Isles have hired since Torrey and I trust him a lot more then any of you clowns Can the guy get a few years before calling him washed up? I think he knows just a little more then Isles twitter

Of course he gets more than a few months. I don't have any issues with Lou and am hopeful he'll get this thing turned around. The thing about it is the signings he's made are eerily reminiscent of Snow-type signings. Sidewalk trash and plugs that no one else wants. I'm still hopeful that after a while this will be an organization that high level UFA's want to play for. However, since we've been beaten over the head with bullshit signings, sub-mediocre GM's and coaches for years and years, it's hard to just turn the page to sunshine & lollipops. I'm still wary of this organization. Hopeful, yet wary.

Every time I see Lou do something, I think about that Shanahan quote where he was asked why he chose Dubas and he said something to the effect of, "I was in the room when the decisions were made and I know who said what" https://t.co/j2VqcG6YOM

I have no idea how to link it to this forum, but there is an NBC sports article on yahoo about the Islanders. The writer is kind of ripping Lou . It sounds like us. Adam Gretz is the writer.

Maybe that did it.

The only younger forward you can make a good case for in preseason was Bellows. And I don't think there's any problem at all with having him start in the AHL as he's never played pro hockey before. If he's scoring goals like crazy down there, he'll be up in the NHL in no time. And...are there really people out there demanding dal Colle be in the NHL lineup?

Even on D -- while the Sbisa signing is utterly pointless and I haven't seen a good argument to convince me otherwise -- I think they made the right call on the younger players with respect to who to keep up and who to send down. That changes if Seidenberg ends up getting a contract, which would mean Toews goes down and I'd love to hear someone tell me that's a good idea

Toews isnt going down. he has outplayed Mayfield, Pelech and Sbisa. thats unless he doesnt have a bad few next games.

Bellows will get first call up if a top 6 forward is hurt. thats the only reason why he not on opening night. Bellows is a shooter, he doesnt work well on grinder 3rd and 4th lines. You can see it in game vs rangers and in the prospect scrimmage last month.
And as good as Bellows is now, he isnt better than Ebs, Beau, Bailey and Lee.

for once I agree some guys score tons in AHL but arent good enough to do it in nhl and cant play a checker/grinder role. Now I dont think bellows will fall into that role as he has talent but hes not there yet as good as camp was

Yes, a lot of us do not like the signings. This guy is ripping Lou. However, he's missing a few points. Bellows may have had been highly productive in preseason games, but they're preseason games. You're not getting the other teams top players up and down the roster. We don't know how he did in practice, in the video room, in meetings, etc. I'm fine with Bellows getting some seasoning in the A. The reason the vets are going to start the season, as I stated yesterday, is that I think Lou wants to see what he's got, evaluate the vets. See what he's got, who needs to go, get traded, what have you. I'm fine with that.

This is what we guessed when the moves were made. Then Lou did something unheard of in Islanders Country...he actually appeared before the media and explained that this is, in fact, where his thinking is at.

Yeah, what was that? Is that what real GM's do?

I'm not sure that if we didn't have so many vets on contract right now that Bellows still wouldn't have been sent down. The kid needs some seasoning. Some time to adjust to the game speed. Maybe that'll come quickly to him. I don't know. We'll see how this all shakes out though.

The Athletic asked 10 nhl gms, coaches, and goalie coaches to rate all the starting goalies and Lehner was 30 out of 31, Bob and Vasilesky were tied for 1st

YIKES!!!

I'm still going to give him a shot. Basically, I think he'll do fine. He might prove me wrong but I'm not holding anything against him. In fact, I think with all the personal stuff he went through (is going through), being on a 1 year contract and wanting to prove himself will drive him to succeed. Which benefits the team and us as fans.

It's not like we have a choice. I hope he does okay since I don't have much faith in Geiss. Maybe the new goalie coach can help him but I'm not counting on it.

Freidman thinks the isles are going to go all in on Bob however hes 30 this year and will want a huge deal. Do you take him and pay him at the end and hope soderstrom or sorokin are here by then?

What I meant was that I'm not starting off thinking he's a piece of trash or is going to suck. I don't think that either of them will be Vezina candidates by any stretch, but I don't think either will have a save % of .673. I think they'll do ok. Maybe playing with more defensive responsibility will help them as well.

I'm going to pass on that question since I don't know who else might be available. However, I'm not sure how Soderstrom or Sorokin will respond to the North American game. Either might need a season or 2 in the A to adjust. In that case, maybe you do sign Bob. Just sayin'

I cannot believe in 12 years of drafting and managing, that a former goalie couldn’t establish or acquire a number 1 goalie. I know it’s over, and I’m over him, but i can’t seem to wrap my head around it. ANYYYY OF US, could have at the very least traded for one.

Hey at least he didn’t use Christopher Gibson’s injury as the reason for the isles failures.

Unless you’re a talent like Nico Hischier, i don’t think 18 year olds should be playing in the NHL. Or i should say, their development is prob better off in the A learning the pro game and physically growing.
