Why do you think Martin won’t play? I think he’s 100% playing with Cizikas and Clutterbuck
- kindlyrick

Then where do Kunachle, Komorov, Flipula, and Johnston play? Hahaha

He’s a role player and Lou is big on players having and then knowing their role. The isles lacked that for the last decade. Case in point is Josh Bailey. They drafted a playmaking center, stuck him on wing, then had him playing a checking wing bottom 6 role for 4 years only to bring him up to play first line wing. Player NEEEEED to know their role. You’re gonna like Komorov.

What I am most looking forward to this season......

1. Having a real coach behind the bench.

2. Watching the new coach integrate the new players into the line up.

3. Watching the new coach require that forwards take their defensive responsibilities seriously.

4. Watching Barzal, and maybe some rookies/call-ups from Bridgeport.

I was saying that he wasn't playing in Toronto, and they were stuck paying him $2.5 MM..........until Lou let them off the hook.

I have no idea how much he'll play for Trotz.

I don’t know what’s been addressed other than you needed to cut down the GA (Trotz will implement a more defensive style). You needed to improve the PK.....which they have. Lastly, you need more guys willing to drive the net which they have. The isles will be competitive and a hard team to beat. They’ll steal some pts from teams sleeping on them
- kindlyrick

Who is driving the net besides Lee? Do me a favor take a look at every, single, player we just signed stats from not only last year but also include the year before and tell me we just signed a bunch of guys who are going to drive the net.

Listen I hope they surprise like everyone else but what you’re saying defies anything ANY of these players have shown the last couple of years some of them their entire careers. You’re making it sound like our 3rd and 4th lines are going to be the second coming of Phillys legion of doom.

I agree, but the one argument in rick's favor? A real coach. I am hopeful that Trotz can get more out of these guys than his predecessors.

I agree with everything(which was my point to JS it’s not a blue print of a gm trying to ice a winning team which was my point which as usual got lost)minus “sprinkle in some grinders and be competitive”. If that is what makes teams competitive in today’s nhl I’m not sure what the rest of these other gms are doing wasting money on all of these talented guys? 🤨
- Cptmjl

It’s similar to the stock market in that you can’t buy what’s not offered. I do think in building a team patience is a key ingredient. That said Snow took that to a whole new meaning. Let’s see what Lou does after this year with prospects to play with. I bet he gets the talent you speak of.

Hey I want Rick and 7 to be right about this. Also, I believe Trotz is going to immensely help with everything and I couldn’t be happier he’s here BUT let’s be realistic and stop painting these signings as anything more than what they really are. They are at the very least extremely questionable and to most mins blowingly stupid. Of Torre made them I’d be saying the same thing. I like that Lameriello is here but I don’t get the signings. Why is that so hard to say when I know every, single person agrees with it whether they’ll admit it or not.

Yes, I agree. I was joking, based on the current team as assembled.

Hope so and don’t doubt it. Hopefully we don’t sign anymore garbage players to four year contracts so we can sign these young prospects you speak of in the future.

Let’s be clear tough. Other than Martin they didn’t really bring in “goons”. They brought in guys who play a specific brand of hockey. Block shots, finish checks, go hard to the wnet.....play the PK. They didn’t just go out and get guys who can’t skate. They brought in a certain brand......clearly trying to change the culture.

I always thought Tavares was super talented, but unfortunately he didn’t have jam. As a result, guys were too relaxed. For me, I’d rather a Messier type who would call guys out in the room. To me, that’s a Captain.....not just a guy who’s got elite talent. I truly believe that played a role in the isles failures.

- kindlyrick

Yea we will see how they plug into the new system

We were at the cap floor there was no need to eliminate a huge chunk of our cap with signing crap players to long term deals when we already have Ladd, Pelech, mayfield, Clutterbuck, and Cizikas. Like pouring gasoline on the fire.

I’m on board with toughening up the team but this was maybe just a bit excessive. Right up there with Snow drafting all defenseman that one year. Hahaha

Third line and Johnston extra forward.

I also think Lou is tryna work a deal for Panarin which will cost a few players (Nelson, Bellows and a pick perhaps)

After pj boy walked there wasnt much he could do so he kept the system stocked as no one available could replace tavares. I think they are writing this season off though they will never admit it and hoping to have their top prospects ready next year and maybe go after seguin or someone big

Hamilton who is pretty excellent went for a song and a dance to Carolina. That would have been a huge addition. Young developing top two defenseman. Also, I agree with keeping the system stocked but signing Johnston, hickey, Komorov, to long term deals and trading for Martin defies explanation.

That’s fantastic. I’m happy for him. Guy was a fan favorite in Toronto but his game dwindled the last couple of years. Hopefully he can rekindle that but there we go hoping again which was my point.

I dont mind hickey and johnston can be sent down, komorov is the worst one to me. At least filpulla and lehner are 1 year if they suck. Martin at 3 isnt great either
