Barring Johnston having a heart attack on the ice during training camp there is no chance he’s in the AHL. Unless he really and I mean really like shows up to camp with powder under both nostrils and hiccuping whiskey. Lou signed the guy to a one way four year contract. I don’t completely disagree with the rest in the way that yeah that’s most probably Lou’s mind set BUT I disagree that Tavares leaving means we have to fully rebuild. Sorry, I’ll never agree with it that (frank)ing guy was not all that elite and certainly isn’t a reason to sign crap and trade for garbage while helping the team that signed him. Hahahahaha. Poetic justice in a psociopath kind of way masachisctically for Islander fans and some just lap it up? Not this guy I don’t (frank)ing care who our gm is and the fantastic things he did in the nineties. Sorry, that move made me borderline vomit when I heard it.

Lehner is like Kovar to me. Excited to see what he can do but my expectations are completely realistic(perceived as negative, Lou bashing on this thread).

So yeah most likely purgatory as you just stated. Have to ask. How do you sit there saying I’m being negative while accepting purgatory as a foregone conclusion? Serious question.

I can't disagree with anything you said, especially the part about JT being "elite". I hate some of the contracts, primarily because most of the signings could be filled with much lower contract hits. IMO, Johnston's is the least of my worries. Komorov is silly, unless he truly has some locker room mojo that is invaluable...as Lou says he's great in the room. Said it before, my most hated contract is Ladd. I just cant wait to see what some of these (frank)s we've hated for the past 3,5+ do with a real coaching staff. Nelson might blossom. Bailey might crumble...or flourish. Ladd might have to poop or get off the pot and be bought out. Who knows!!! We've literally NEVER had a competent coaching staff in the last 12 yrs saver for Teddy Nolan... and he's a cook in his own right.

Coach and system should really help isles i agree. Was just saying they cant cherry pick the players that fit it perfectly
- Upstate_isles

No they can't, but they can probably hold a phucking one goal lead with a min to go for the first time in over a decade.....so there's that LOL

Crappy put them out for momentum always, but EVERY TIME they were on the ice it was tilted at the other end. They were the isles best puck possession line. If the puck is in the O zone the other team cant score...
- kindlyrick

Yet they scored consistently against that line and I’m not going to bother looking up their posession numbers but I don’t think they were the Islanders best posession line. Do you have the stats to prove that?

I don't think they have to be bad. I do think players don't want to come here.
- JimmyP

I don’t disagree but that doesn’t validate these signings and trades.

That moron literally put the 4th line out after every goal against, the other team knew it and could put out their top line, it was a free matchup
- Upstate_isles

And scored against the isles supposed best posession line.

Phuck no it’s Saturday night. I’m not looking up stats. I’m just stating that they were controlling the puck whenever they were out there. Do you have the stats to prove otherwise.......cause my memory says everytime that line was out there they created turn overs with hits and chipped and chased.

They didnt knownhow tonbnstop teams from scoring on them or how to fix it, now they have real coaches that can fix the problem. Even if you cant score you should be able to play d

I can say this, its hard to have two of the top hit leaders in the league if you have the puck... .

Let me phrase it like this so i don’t get a stat nerd jumping down my throat :
I think that line changed the momentum more than any other line. Other teams were constantly on their heels when those three were on the ice. They were the best at getting pucks deep and keeping it in the O zone. To me, that’s a big deal.

I don’t think any player whose game is scoring is freaking out at the thought of playing against Matt Martin or Clutterbuck. Most likely hoping they have the opportunity to skate circles around them and pad their stats.
