Yes he did who are defensive forwards who are better than prince Quine and others we have had
- kasperrko

Two guys who were more or less extra forwards and obviously expendable were replaced with pretty much just as bad players who cost exponentially more.

Timeout...regardless of anything else that happened yesterday, Komarov at four years and $3m/yr is a bad signing. It's made worse by already being locked in for years on a very expensive fourth line with what Cizikas and Clutterbuck are making. None of that has anything to do with Tavares...he could have re-signed here for $5m/yr and the Komarov signing would still be a bad way to spend that money for that term. He's over 30 and in decline, so you're already betting $3m that he'll be able to overcome that, and you're betting on it for four years.
- UIF

The thing that puzzles me a bit is that Komarov was with Toronto, so Lou has been seeing him first-hand, and not relying on any scout's opinion of him. Lou must know something about his game that we're missing, right? RIGHT?

Lol I think everyone is pissed and no matter what Lou does we are going to freak cause it’s not jt. I moved on from him already and the best revenge is coming out next year and show him what we can do
- kasperrko

One has nothing to do with the other every one of those signings were laughed at because they were that bad. You're calling 5.5 million in cap space spent on "defensive forwards" as a positive

Yeah, I saw that on BD's board. I like the idea, too.

Great article in the Athletic about how The Leafs can keep all the young guns after signing JT. A lot about loyalty and wanting to stay with a team. Something The Islanders don’t and didn’t get to much of.

What's your take on the signing yesterday chief?
- ses111

I think he strung the team along and jerked them around right up until the last second and left them with their dicks in their hand.

He plays for Toronto now so I don't care about him or his career. Doesn't matter if he scores 1,000 points this season or blows out both knees and never plays again...he's irrelevant to me.

No it's because tavares left

Every, single person on the planet is laughing at these signings because tavares left stop freaking out

No, it's like Lou took a bad situation and made it worse by signing shat players to money and term with no way out of it with a team that has;
Ladd
Clutterbuck
Cizikas
Pelech
Mayfield
Boychuck

I'm just mad because Tavares left.

Not saying that was a great signing at all. All I am saying is that we all need to sit back and see what happens with this team before going off the deep end
- kasperrko

Yeah, absolutely. But we can't really talk about what hasn't happened yet and can only call them as they come in. If there's some amazing trade made today or whenever, then that'll be awesome. But it still won't make yesterday's contracts good ones. Sure, the Isles have a lot of cap space, but they also have a lot players to re-sign and holes to fill. It goes quickly when your fourth line costs over $9 million if it's going to be, say, Komarov-Cizikas-Clutterbuck (edit...check that, it'll be closer to $10m than 9)...and all of those guys are on the books at their price tags for the next three or four seasons (three for Cizikas, four for Clutter and Komarov).

JT hurt the Isles big time. I'm just not sure Lou had to make these signing yesterday? 4 years for Hickey and Komarov seems nuts.

I honestly feel Clutterbuck will be a throw in a trade. Jt was a good friend of his and we signed him cause of him.

Throw in? We will literally have to give someone at least a pick and probably a decent one to take him and his contract. Now we have 3 other contracts that we can't move even if we wanted to just like Ladd's and Boychuck's. Just pointing out the obvious here.

Thanks for the summary of the article, 7. Saves me the time and expense of reading it.

Yeah, I don't know how the Isles can develop loyalty within the organization. They've been poorly run for so long that it's no wonder players want out. It starts with ownership, and I have to hope that the new guys are better than their predecessors (I know, a low bar). They got off to a slow start, but at least now they've replaced Snow and Weight. Lou was not my first choice, but almost anyone was better than Snow. Trotz was the best coach available, so there's cause for optimism there. I just don't have a lot of patience for another rebuild, but they have so many holes that I hope Lou doesn't try to cure everything in the next few months. It seems like we have no choice but to be patient................again.

The Island's a selling point...maybe not to attract players (many of whom don't know a lot about the area), but to keep players. If you have the money, it's a good place to be and to raise a family. If the organization can just stop tripping over itself and only making headlines for the wrong reasons, I think players will stay...especially once all the building stuff is finally, mercifully behind us.

Good. I hope the players are pissed off enough to demonstrate it on the ice. If I were on Twitter, I would unfollow him too. That would show him!

And in his new blog EK has the Isles on Skinner. Would be madness to add Karlsson without him being signed first. Last thing we need is Karlsson walking after JT left.
- ses111

The Isles just got their nuts kicked in by a pending UFA who played for them for nine years. They can't possibly trade assets for a pending UFA who has absolutely no connection to the franchise. Vanek 2.0.

Yeah, I guess I take some of that for granted. We supposedly have pretty good school systems here. I imagine, however, that so does Toronto.

I can't imagine Lou doing that but then again I couldn't imagine him extending Hickey 4 years and signing the other two yesterday either so who knows?
