If winning a Cup is Priority #1, he should sign with Tampa, but he'd have to settle for a contract in the neighborhood of Stamkos I would think.

If winning in his hometown is Priority #1, there's always Toronto, I suppose. I just think Toronto would have problems on D.

If lifestyle is Priority #1, then he's likely headed to San Jose.

If loyalty to his fans is Priority #1, then he signs with the Islanders.

JT needs to get his priorities straight!

By the way, for those saying the #TavaresWatch is all about money -- if that were true, he'd have signed with the #Isles ages ago. The most money is here. Seems he wants to find the best chance to win in addition to a giant pile of cash.

Yup, I've always thought that it was more than just money. See my scenarios in my previous post.

Isles can offer the most so he waits and the sharks match over 7 years and hes gone. We could just be a pawn

Also accurate to have a real captain and leader like Doughty.

I’m still disagreeing with you about JT and his “captain-ship”. I don’t see what he’s done or not done in his tenure as Captain to warrant a comment that he’s a lousy captain. He’s carried this team on his back at times. He’s made his teammates better every year (see: Bailey, Boyes, PAP, KO, Lee, do I need to go on?). He’s been a model citizen off the ice. He’s been a great ambassador for the franchise. Just because he doesn’t talk a lot of s**t, making guarantees and being outspoken, doesn’t make him a lousy captain.

When he chooses another team over the isles, I will be pissed about it, especially the way he proclaimed for a year he wanted it to work out with the isles and asking not to be traded at the deadline because he wanted to stay here. But I’m not going to start convincing myself he’s some lousy player or captain to soften the blow.

I agree with dan on Twitter, if he goes then throw all that money at karelson. He scores as many points and plays d
- Upstate_isles

You gotta trade for him. Who we giving up for him? And with no JT here, think Karlsson is re-signing here? Likely not

Even if JT comes back I do not feel he is a good captain. I do need JT talking and making a lot of guarantees, but maybe going to ownership earlier saying guys Garth is just not working out and you may want to replace him instead of JT asking the team not to trade him and maybe walking out the door for nothing. Being a good captain is getting in guys faces when they are not bringing it like Bailey and Nelson. A good Captain is not just someone that stays out of trouble and is quite. We usually agree Jethro but we just have to agree to disagree and move on.

In the history of the NHL, has any player (captain or otherwise) ever gone to ownership and said, "Your GM sucks, you need to replace him."? I can't recall anything like that....

Would not shock me if it happened. We know players have gotten coaches fired. Trust me with a GM like Garth, I want my captain and best player going to ownership.

I just like bold leaders. I'm done with Kenny Jonsson, Streit, and JT type quite as a mouse captains.

Frankly I think the most money would only be here if Snow was still running things. He would absolutely panic and throw 14 mil a year at him. I don't think Lamoriello will cave.

My only gripe with this whole JT nonsense was the posturing, the rhetoric and apparent bulls**t he spewed for a year about wanting and hoping to work out an extension with the isles. If true, telling the ownership and GM not to trade him because he wanted to stay here. That sh*t is what pisses me off.

JT should have said nothing, made no promises. He should have just said he wants to test the market and be done with it. At least it would have been the honest thing to do. Then, if the isles didn’t move him at the deadline, that stupidity would be in them. But when your franchise captain and one of the top players in the game tells his organization that he “wants to work it out, don’t trade me”, you hold onto him.

Last point on this I promise. JT was not shy about asking not to be traded, but going to ownership about the GM and coach is taboo? If JT cannot complain to ownership about the GM and coach, he needs to keep quite about not wanting a trade.

Agreed. He kept saying how much he likes playing for the Islanders, and hopes to work things out. So then they apparently offered him the most money, and now it turns out it was never about the money, it was something else........something the Isles had little control over, at least in the short-term......as you say, he likely knew, or should have known, from the beginning that he wanted to test the market.

Not quite sure about this one. Did JT in fact go to Snow and ask not to be traded? Or is that just one of those internet rumors?

Do we really know what was truly offered by each team in the race?
