Wait..... aren't those the guys you want traded?

- mdw7413

Yes but I really want them traded now.

Why would you want to stick up for PB after what he did?

I think they sold low on Donato, they gave up on him kinda quick by all accounts.I don't thin particularly highly of Coyle, he's streaky. But it makes the big club's bottom six better right now for sure. They may regret it down the line, but who knows.
- eichiefs9

If Coyle is like Nelson, they were probably better off keeping Donato. Will Coyle really make a big difference for Boston?

Because Schremp was talking about his character as a player, which came across absurd. If he wanted to trash JT he easily could have went after the way he left.

I still would not defend him. Maybe I do not say what Schremp said and leave it at that.

I thought Schremp was a schmuck as well mdw. The guy was insignificant as far as an NHL player and honestly thought what he said was just childish.

I don't know, you guys seem really nuts over this, and lets be honest, its worked out in your favor. The only thing that is a minus out of the whole thing is you didn't get any assets at the TDL last year for him.

Thats my whole point. If Schremp wanted to hate on him, do it about how he left. It was sitting there on a tee for him

Schremp has no affiliation with the team anymore so it really does not matter what he says. I just do not get current Isles defending PB? It's not required as he is not a teammate anymore.

Because they are probably friends and have known each other for awhile. If you had a friend for decades and he did something people agree was kind of (frank)ed up, but someone uses that in a way to totally question a guys entire character, you wouldn't stick up for your friend knowing it was completely untrue?

I have no friends.

I just have a problem with the way PB left and how he seemed to go along with Garth and Cappy for years. I've said many times I want my star players to be leaders and willing to get their hands dirty.

Agree and its part of the game, hate the way he left but he earned the right to go to FA as with every other player in the game. They are there playing to make money at the end of the day and win a cup of course. Which I hope the phucker never wins

I have no issue have fans are pissed about how he left, I just think what Schremp did was childish as hell. Basically character assassination, I'm not down with that. See that poop way to much these days.

It makes their bottom-6 better now and next year for sure. If they win a Cup the move was absolutely worth it, but if they don't and Donato turns into a good player then they'll probably regret it. It wasn't a bad trade, just slightly risky for the Bruins.

Especially one that was a big, fat nothing in the NHL

He was dumb for saying it but I'm still happy that he stirred the pot and got people all riled up

Has anybody brought up what the implications would have been regarding Cap etc if JT had stayed? Just curious if him re-signing would have been a minus considering everything. I mean he is a great player, no matter how you slice it, but sometimes those players might not be a net positive once the culture of a team is changed from the top down

I can't recall if it ever came out what the Isles actually offered him, but I think it was more than he ultimately signed for in Toronto. Maybe $11.5M?

There's no doubt it would've hampered their ability to add other pieces, but it's also entirely possible that the Isles end up signing someone like Panarin for $11M this summer too. They can absolutely afford it, but it will definitely make for some tougher decisions down the line. Someone like Beauvillier could end up as a casualty after his next contract when he's due a (likely) big raise.

Yeah, I was just wondering, because it almost seems it would be a negative. Barzal is easily a number 1 center, if not already pretty close to an elite center, and not sure when he would be up for a giant raise but that would be tough having those two as 1&2, maybe have to sacrifice on the wings, defense? I think if you have 1 elite center you are good to go. Just have to spend wisely in other areas

A big contract like that is worth it, but yeah you're gonna have to make sacrifices elsewhere and it means you really need to hit on draft picks, and not just 1st rounders. You need help from young guys on ELC's and cheap 2nd deals to be successful.

If the Isles success continues, they're going to need help from guys like Wilde/Dobson/Wahlstrom/Koivula/Bellows, among others, down the line. The defense outlook is positive. They've got three guys in the AHL (Aho/Vande Sompel/Wotherspoon) that are varying degrees of close to being lower pairing guys at the NHL level. A little further out are Wilde/Dobson who, hopefully, should be real impact players. Things are a lot thinner up front.

Barzal is due for a new deal after next season. It'll be interesting because Matthews' deal seems to have changed the game. Instead of going long-term right off the bat, I have a feeling things are going to start shifting to young guys taking 4-6 year deals and betting on themselves in order to get another massive contract while they're still in their prime.

Yeah, kind of makes sense too. Some of these guys aren't UFA's till the late 20's and most aren't going to get that big contract at that point

Yeah, I mean (and I'm just flat-out making up round numbers for simplicity here) if Barzal could get an 8 year deal at $10M/per after his ELC expires or take a 5 year deal at $9M/per and still have a good number of prime years left when the cap has risen significantly and then he can get $13M/per max-term deal after that...he'd be nuts not to

Exactly. I would give up the security of a giant deal to get 2 big paydays
