Maybe, but there's been a lot of talk around the Isles/Lou and Panarin and I really haven't seen much in the way of any connections with the Isles and Duchene.

Not that that means much, since Lou is so tight-lipped, but if we're going with the "where there's smoke, there's fire" method...Panarin seems like the guy they're targeting. Panarin is a better player, but Duchene would fill a hole at center. Personally speaking, I'd rather have Nelson/Panarin than Duchene.

I would rather have Nelson and Duchene with Casey and Barzal

As you said not much noise about Lou and Duchene and that’s just the way he likes it.

Ladd or Bailey have to be going the other way. That's the only way it'd make any sense.
- eichiefs9

Has to be Ladd or Bailey. Only way a deal makes sense. Could the Kings add a little more to deal if it's Bailey?

They also have a ton of guys to re-sign or replace. Lee/Nelson/Eberle/Filppula are all UFA's. Beau/MDC are RFA's. That's exactly half of the forwards. Barzal/Pulock/Toews need deals the summer after. They do have a lot of wiggle room, but it's not like they have the core locked up for years and can spend money on whatever they want.
- eichiefs9

The isles have more space than any other contending team. The 11 million not spent on Tavares is laying around......they’d still have those guys to sign regardless. The cap will go up and Eberle will walk. Add to that ridding themelves of maybe Ladd and you have more than enough to sign and add.

It’s business. There’s no hate. Lou has a history with him yes, which is all the more reason i see him coming to the island.
- kindlyrick

that contract in itself was a shady situation. very front loaded with a bunch of cheap years thrown on at the end. for all we know Lou knew he was going to leave after a couple of years. if i remember correctly early drafts of the contract were rejected by the nhl.

I doubt they'd add much being a rebuilding team, but I could see them retaining a little money to make it better for the Isles. If they retained $1.5M on Kovy the Isles would have him at $4.75M for two years. That's good value and still leaves you the room to go out and land a big UFA like Panarin/Stone/Duchene

So tell him hes the 1c barzal 2 and Nelson 3 that's deep especially the way Nelson has played this year. Been strong on puck and made a lot of good subtle 1v1 moves
- Upstate_isles

Really I don’t think 1 or 2 matters as long as they win. He will be out there for all the important draws. Something Panarin or Stone don’t give you. Also if Nelson doesn’t sign then Duchene is that much more important in my opinion.

Really only Lou know the answers to these questions.

I'm not sure how much he has left? I'd rather go into the playoffs with the current team then Kovy being the only deadline move.
- ses111

You’re nuts.....this guy on the PP (which is the isles ONLY weakness) is a game changer. Trust me, you want him for the post season for the PP alone.

Right but my point is in 18mo they'll have to give Barzal big money as well as get Pulock and Toews new deals. Also, if Sorokin comes over for next season he'll only be on a 1 year ELC, so they'll have to give him another contract in the summer of 2020 also.

Yes but are you really basing your thought on who needs to be signed 2-3 years down the road? Things change, players leave. Even with adding Kovalchuk you still have 5 million laying around from not signing Tavares. I dunno man I’m not one bit concerned cost wise. The isles are sitting mighty pretty right now

He’s a pure sniper and he would absolutely help the PP. I get it, he’s not the same yada yada yada.....he’s still a retarded shot.
- kindlyrick

If you think they are going to bring in a "pure sniper" you really are not paying attention. Everything Trotz is about is his system. he is implimenting that same system in B-port which is why "pure snipers" like Bellows can't get any ice time. If you are not going to play within his system... you ain't friggin playing. (cough.. Ho Sang... cough). Kovy would not help this team.... he possibly would derail it though.

I still think Stone makes sense and that is his target.

I mean, do you really think Lou has 2019-only blinders on and doesn't make every decision with the future in mind?

I'd rather not be forced to trade someone like Pulock or Toews for pennies on the dollar because we had to stuff Kovalchuk and his expensive deal into the fold. If we have to do that because we're paying Artemi Panarin $11M then fine, but I'm not sure the Kovalchuk fallout would make it worth it. Isles would have to dump cap somewhere for that one.

They are and there is absolutely cap room to make this great team even better. But just blindly throwing money around without an eye on the future would be stupid.

Thanks tips. Nowhere did i mention not playing Trotz’ system. It’s ridiculous to argue that

If your building a winner by keeping you players and adding you gonna be in cap he’ll at some point. The key is to win a cup before you have to break your core up.

Yes, He certainly has been incredible for the Kings this year. 11 goals in 47 games.. +/- = -27 on the year. yeah we really need him. A 35 year old Anchor that can be healthy scratched with Ladd for the next 2 years.

Agreed. And I'm all for Kovy if they're shipping back significant salary. I'm just saying adding him without moving Ladd's $5.5M cap hit (or Bailey's $5M hit, although I think that's even more unlikely) would be irresponsible. That's it, not saying I wouldn't love to see Kovy teeing up one timers on the PP
