Yeah he's a long term road block
- Upstate_isles

Team is playing great and has helped so there’s no disputing the chemistry with this team up till now. With that said the guy is not a good hockey player. He’ll do his occasional good thing here and there but overall he’s just not good. Last night he made a few gaffes along with Friday night. Thankfully they didn’t end up in the back of the net but the old “he’s a great defensive forward” mantra has worn thin. If the team loves him and plays well because of him great but good player he is not and we have him for ten more years.

Hickey as well. I know in the past fans mentioned Hickey could be traded. It will be tougher with his latest injury.

Cap space means nothing. It’s only 2.5. 🤔
One of the things I said after a couple of these contracts came across the news feed was what if we actually are competitive and surprise? That cap space mean a helluva lot more at that point. We have a lot of space now but we have some players to sign... With toews playing the way he is it certainly makes Hickey expendable but with that said it’s good to have depth just not at that price.

I'm so confused. What is the groupthink? To worry about cap space, or not to worry about cap space. That is the question. Apologies to Hamlet.

Sarcasm in the beginning of the post of course. Sucks to have Hickey locked up along with Komarov for more than a year or two for obvious reasons. With that said team is obviously playing great so near term it’s easy to overlook what may be a tricky offseason for Lameriello with who we do wind up signing and who we want/can add in FA.

I'm a little concerned with Ladd and Hickey coming back and Barry's comments about players not losing their jobs over injuries. Barzal cannot lose his job to injury but Ladd and Hickey sure as heck can lose their jobs.

Well they can lose their jobs over bad play and I hope that’ll ultimately be the end result if they crap the bed. Our defense is better since Hickey went out. To me it’s not even debateable. Ladd really brings nothing to the line up but if he wants to throw him on the third line in spurts fine. As long as he adheres to what Trotz has developed here whatever. Dump Sbisa and give Hickey limited time and keep him for depth unless an opportunity presents itself. Ladd hopefully will be Seattle bound in a year till then (frank) him.

To change the subject slightly, I was so disgusted watching the "Killer B" line after two periods last night, that i was ready to recommend playing MooseKnuckle and Ross The Boss in the next game and sitting 2/3 of that line. Fortunately, Barry saw the same thing, and had a talk with those guys in between periods (per his post-game comments)...........and they in fact picked up their play in the 3rd.

Yeah they didn’t look good. Bailey has been reverting and Beau has been pretty bad himself for a stretch along with Barzal(minus his goal of course)imo. Like I said last time we discussed this he’s(beau) not getting anything done when he’s out there and more recently he’s starting to turn the puck over more frequently on top of it. Kid is having a hard time with consistency. Said yesterday maybe moving Eberle to that line and Bailey to the Nelson line may do something? It’s definitely debateable because the Nelson line has been good lately.

As ses and probably others have mentioned, it seems like the B line has too many passers. The problem with say, moving Bailey to the Nelson line in place of Ebs, is that it makes the Nelson line too slow. Maybe the answer is to swap Beau and Ebs? But then that still leaves 2 pass-first guys together (Barzal and Bailey) which is less than desirable.

Bailey has had some success in the past playing with those guys and Lee though not playing bad hasn’t been putting the puck in the net lately. Eberle as we know also had success with beau and Barzal as well so... Ultimately I’m hoping the Barzal line as a whole has just hit a rut and will work it out but it does make you wonder whether Lou will try to add to the top six? Like you and others have said there seems to be a lack of finishers.

The guy has done what was expected of him and more. That includes Martin, Filppula and every other signing you group think bunch of GMs said we’re terrible and this team was going to SUCK in a word.
Trotz is a great coach but with this roster he can’t create miracles etc etc etc.

The new CBA will come out and buy outs and offer sheets will be addressed.

I wouldn’t worry about Leo’s contract blocking anyone from playing if they deserve to play. Trots just puts the best team out there to win with unless he wants to lose and then he puts Johnson in the lineup another brilliant tidbit I learned on here.

A bit cranky as the drive to NC was a pain in the ass

Hopefully but I meant this year, hes paid an absolute ton to sit in the box especially when Del colle can be sent down without waivers

Dal Cole needs to turn it up a notch to force Trotz’s hand a bit. I can see him alternately sitting Ladd if he plays the way he has for us since coming here. He’s not going to throw an inferior line up out there because of past managements mistakes imo. Not with how far this team has come.

Lou has a history of not giving a poop what you are paid, and icing the best team as he sees it.

So there is that.

Playing Ladd no matter what is a Garth, Cappy, and Doug thing. Lou and Barry need to be different. Ownership should have gotten rid of Garth earlier so they need to deal with Ladd's contract. MDC can only produce so much with Leo and Fili. That is never going to be a high scoring line.
