When I got a new toy or book when I was a kid, my parents always warned me to take good care of it. Most of the toys have disappeared over the years but I still have a huge book collection, much of which is in near-mint condition.

I was the same way, when I was younger I always wanted a large study filled with books, so I kept them in great condition. But since I am from the Vancouver area I now just have boxes of books doubling as coffee tables and stools

Records are at least making a comeback, I have a few 2016 albums on vinyl but CD's... there is nothing good left to do with those. I figure once I buy a car without a CD player they will go in the trash

We actually bought a new turntable a couple of years ago.
I must have over 300 CD's in shelves, too.
