Sorry to hear about the CSN gig Tim.

Elliot is an upgrade over Neuvirth, not so much an upgrade over Mason (when he's playing well).

It's only 2 years and gives the younger prospects more time. Honestly, I wish we would have just kept Mason.

they never appreciated Mason. The guy played well enough to earn a contract here.

Really, what can he do? This team is three or four years away from serious contention. The only reason this isn't a full blown rebuild is because he can't find a buyer to take Giroux's or Voracek's contracts (first line money) for second and third line performances.

Last year was the most puzzling goalie handling I've seen. I'm a free masoner and I think he'll kick ass in the peg.

Tell ya what...the Rangers take Mason, we'll take Mason. (Of course, that won't happen because Mason isn't coming back to Philly...so it's purely hypothetical.) Let's
see how much you like his erratic, inconsistent play then. Not trying to be rude to you, but Mason isn't that good and he wears down quickly and suddenly.

Mason was pretty consistent -- and consistently good -- during his time with the Flyers. He had perhaps two or three bad months for his entire tenure. Every goalie has the odd bad game or bad goal here and there.

Also, he held up fine. Where he would wear down temporarily was when he'd repeatedly get used four times in six nights, seven times in 10, etc. Mason played 51 to 61 games every season in Philly and his best play often came down the stretch.

The bottom line is that the leaguewide average save percentage during Mason's time with the Flyers was between .914 and .915. For his Flyers career, Mason posted a .918 save percentage, and he did it with average to below-average defense in front of him.

People that claim he is erratic and inconsistent don't watch other teams. Even Carey price has multiple week long stretches under .900 last year. Goaltending is volatile, and over the course of his Flyers career he was generally very consistent

Totally agree Yuengling I think for the most part he was very good here. Wish him well in Winterpeg.

Tim,

Best of luck with future endeavors. Enjoyed reading your work and chatting with you at the original "Buzzgate" tailgate way back when.

In the short term, the flyers will look bad letting mason go.

The Flyers were going to look bad regardless.
