And they officially traded Seguin for a handful of magic beans.

This move was bad but don't think it won't happen again for some other team. All teams make dumb moves. For example for MTL you did trade Roy, and traded for Gomez....just saying no team is perfect.

DID I mention this this trade sucked....?

Nothing like having money count against your cap for a guy who is playing well for another team... especially when you're scouring the piddly free agent market looking for a guy to fill his role.

Don't think we would be getting a better season out of Hayes next year. I like this move. Sucks financially, but necessary for the growth of the team

The only official word from Sweeney I've heard is that Stafford is the only UFA he's keeping tabs on from the B's, and he wants to be patient and let the kids earn spots. Is this not what we wanted? Since when are we not ecstatic that Hayes will NOT touch the ice in Boston next year?

I was talking about Seidenberg
I wouldn't mind Stafford back, but I'm all for letting the younger dudes play next year too.
What if they were to get Shattenkirk on a Belskey kind of deal? Not like money wise, but how everyone thought Beleskey was going to sign for big money in the offseason and Sweeney was able to get him for less then people expected. Everyone epects Shattenkirk to get like $7m... what if it was 4x5.5m? It might be interesting at that price.

They not only traded Roy, they drove him out of town. Watching him raise the cup for Avs was glorious.

This. This free agency class sucks ass. There is not much that will be helpful.

Just waiting for talks with pastas camp to fall apart. "We obviously had a number in mind, and we felt as an organization we couldn't go over that number" you know it's coming.

Whenever Sweeney says he is done, he makes last minute trades (past two deadlines). Now he has gone and said he will take the patient approach to free agency. Watch him throw a 7yr, 7.25M contract at shattenkirk and (frank) everything up.

There is no need to do this. Right now he has so many prospects one or 2 of these kids can hopefully stick. Sitting back is absolutely the right decision. Let NYR do what they do best and way overpay for bullpoop.

I agree .

I also don't count Sweeney out for any blunders.

Oh god no. There will always be the Rinaldo deal, drafting Frederic in the 1st round and that putrid Beleskey signing.
