Actually Ramo played pretty well for Calgary down the stretch last year. It's not a bad idea at all..

At this point, you sort of have to do something, since, at the very least, you need someone capable in Ontario, now that you've promoted both of their goaltenders. A few prospects need to have a successful year down there if they're to challenge for an NHL spot next year.

I think that it's a question of the quality of assets that you're talking about giving up. If Lombardi can get a goalie for a 4th round pick or later, that would hardly be objectionable (well, assuming that it's not a bad contract). A 3rd round pick would be painful, but not the worst thing if it's actually a decent goalie. 1st and 2nds should absolutely be off of the table, as should any top prospects.

That said, teams know that Lombardi is desperate and are not going to want to do him any favors. They're going set the price high and I'm afraid that Lombardi is going to panic and give up too much to, in his eyes, save the season (and, maybe, his job). Hopefully, he resists the temptation to chase after a big name and sticks to a budget buy. First, though, I would look around at goaltenders who are unsigned and/or have out clauses in their European contracts, since you can't beat free.

Hey, I wonder what Fukufuji is doing these days...

Every few years a team ends up in this position.

For those of you who do not think Ryan Miller is the answer then you are resigned to being last year's Canadiens.

Bishop would be lovely, but so would not having a cap.

If a 1st round pick is the asking price for Miller, then it's not going to happen. Since the Kings have been without a 1st round pick in 2 straight drafts and 3 of the last 4 years, you won't be able to pry a 1st round pick out of Lombardi's cold dead fingers.

If the Kings do go after a starting goaltender, then there are certainly better options available. As many have said, Pavelec is pretty much a throw-away for Winnipeg and can be taken for very little. Steve Mason is an option from Philadelphia, and knowing how close Lombardi and Hextall are, it wouldn't be a stretch for them to get a deal done. Bernier could probably be had from Anaheim due to the fact that the Ducks are struggling to clear cap space for Lindholm, but it would be a tough deal due to the Kings and Ducks proximity and the fact that Gibson is playing like garbage thus far. Greiss is available from Brooklyn too.

The point is, there are a lot of goalies out there that can be had for much less than a 1st round pick. Lombardi isn't going to mortgage the future for what will amount to 25-30 games from an over-the-hill goaltender. He'd rather take his chances with Budaj.

C'mon John, no way the Kings are gonna give a 1st for a mediocre goalie. There are cheaper options out there, maybe try to get Enroth back or sign Ramo/Hiller, both of whom shouldn't be much worse than Miller and most importantly are free and take up less $$$

Did the organization really honor Jaroslav Modry last night? Jaroslav Modry? Did Craig Johnson, Joe Corvo, Steve McKenna and Sandy Moger not return their phone calls? Who's next, Derek Armstrong? Oh, wait...
