Last year may have been the last year for the Caps to take this current group of players to a Stanley Cup. This year for sure.

While you insist we are deep down the middle with Backstrom, Kuznetzov, Eller and Beagle… I disagree. Because of this: Backstrom is on the downside of his career – Kuznetzov is an undersized center who may be a much better right wing and Eller and Beagle are neither what we need to put three solid interchangeable Stanley Cup challenging lines on the ice.

When you add to that our ‘prospects’ are rather weak with potential NHL talent and that a ‘rookie’ out of college looks that good in camp… that’s not such a good thing about the team as a whole.

Yeah, why should a random late pick look better than other guys in camp? (frank) that poop. We should draft straight garbage after Round 2 to ensure that we don't have rookies out of college looking good in camp.

Maybe Zach Sanford is a diamond in the rough. God knows we need to find them!

We are in practice games… and game by game the value of players who are playing against other players ‘made up of mostly AHL player caliber' can get high praise because there is nothing better to write about. Did you watch the game last night where two coaches from the dark ages with teams that have yet to win it all go against each other like they are in the FINAL. They’ve never caught on to the changes in the NHL.

If you think we’ve got a strong team down the middle that’s your opinion… if you think we’ve got a great prospect base that’s your opinion also… if you think Zach Sanford will make the team out of camp – I have no problem with that… he may make it and more power to him if he does. There are picks who were selected last overall or not selected at all who have had some pretty decent hockey careers.

My point is that we weren’t deep enough last season and quite frankly I don’t see the depth improved. Do you?

Possibly your ‘poster name being Backstrom2’ that you didn’t like my comment about him Backstrom being on the downside of his career… whatever, so’s Ovechkin. Time is running out... or already run out. Every year it’s ‘if these guys can’t do it we’ll have to rebuild’… when does it actually become the year to break the team up? Or are you riding this roster and prospect base to the grave?
