Great blog Todd.

I think after getting concussed Ferland never quite found his groove. Hoping he can bounce back in a big way.

Careful what you wish for. Undue bouncing could re-aggravate his concussion.

Also could have a lot to do with Ferland only doing it against the Canucks. JB and WD love to assemble a team that can be pushed around doe

It seemed pretty obvious to me that Ferland was being unlucky and was maybe trying to compensate to much by aiming to much post/cross-bar side. Especially when he was playing with Johnny and Mony; probably because he felt he needed to produce. I thought he looked much more comfortable playing with Bennett.

But, I agree, I would expect him to have the shooting % bounce back his way this year. He just has to keep shooting and not worry as much about pin-point accuracy; let his instincts take over.

He better score more than four goals if he wants another NHL contract.

Then the question becomes, do the Flames protect him?

You know, undue bouncing doesn't seem so bad when you take a long hard look at it.

One can see how easy it is to get concussions from the pounding of the head caused from the undue bouncing. Lube is like a helmet. Always wear a helmet!

So, still lots of time for things to change, but of the Ferland, Poirier, and Shink, who do people think has the best chance to get protected?

I still think Ferland will get protected. When he is on his game he provides and aspect that the Flames really lack.

And damn is ever fun to watch against the Nucks!

If he puts up Colborne type #'s? I would have to think so. Unless someone like Shinkaruk puts more.

I doubt it unless he drastically improves this year. He's done nothing in the NHL besides one playoff series. I can't see Vegas having any interest in him or the Flames even qualifying him if he has another year like last year.

Have you seen anything out of him that makes you think he can put up numbers anywhere near what Colborne did?

Yes I have, actually. He took a lot of shots last year and rang many off the post and cross bar or just missed or hit the G. He's got a hell of a shot. As much as our team benefited from 'luck' 2 years ago, last year a lot of those players got the short end. None more than Ferland. I'm not saying he will put up those #'s, I'm saying he's more than capable.

The Flames need players like Ferland, but they also need the 2015 version. I think just the coaching change will benefit a lot of players!
Edmontons been loading up with turds we need a shinny one and that could be Ferland! Or not!

If that is even a question, he's dealt long before the expansion draft...

Wasn't there a rumour they were going to trade him at the deadline last year? I think to Boston if I remember correctly.
