How many years of RFA will he have left when this deal expires?

The deal is perfect. When the deal expires, Nash's cap hit will be off the books one way or the other, He will have played out his contract or the Rangers trade him and retain some of his contract. If he produces he will be paid, if not, NEXT

We agree to disagree here and played this out in prior blog, so no need to rehash it. if I am proven wrong, I will admit it.

Yeah but the Rangers, outside of Mcdonagh never give any RFA that type of deal. Not even Lundqvist. Now hindsight is 20/20. People don't want Kreider on the team now. 2 years he would have been in a position to sign a longer term RFA deal. Conversely, the Rangers shot themselves in the foot by not treating Stepan as equal to Mcdonagh.

I really think this is the key. In two years, this team will have the flexibility to make the moves we all wanted them to make this year. Until then, I think they should just weather the storm and hope for the best if it truly is a gridlock on the trade front.

Quote isn't working Jan, but yea agree to disagree I suppose. No way to know for sure how this will play out.

Hope you end up being right tho as that obviously means Miller established himself as a consistent top 6 forward.

Been over this with Jimbo, but the Stepan bridge deal was all the Rangers could do. They had like 3.5M of cap space left to sign him.

JT Miller scored 2 goals in the last 22 games of the regular season and didn't produce a point in 4 of our 5 playoff games.

Sorry but the kid has not earned a 6 year facking extension after his miserable end to the season. Especially because he didn't do jack poop the first 2 years of his ELC.

Brayden Schenn's lest 3 seasons. 20, 18 and 26 goals. Seems like he's find consistency. Would have been better if you mentioned Luke

I have no problem with this sort of deal. Honestly, I wish there were a way to sign everybody to this sort of term. Obviously, I see why the players wouldn't do it, but it makes a lot of sense in some ways. Guys sign a long term deal and at the end of it, if they have "surpassed their value", they end up looking for ridiculous money for long enough that you are paying them for multiple years of declining play, or they feel they aren't properly appreciated and walk. If Miller has two more good years, then he will be well worth signing to another, higher contract.

If he has 2 years left when this expires that would be great. Could get him in a 5 or 6 years deal if he plays well on a good deal.

In two when he goes to arbitration again, this will be book marked like Bill Murray in "Groundhog Day"

But basically they may have put themselves back in cap constraints, because if Miller plays well, like I think he will, he will cost way more then than now. I would rather take flier at $4 mil now, knowing he could be exposed in expansion draft if he regressed substantially, rather than paying way more down the road if he pans out. It could be $5 mil+ in future, meaning cap space will have been eaten up by being shortsighted.
