Once again Jarmo proving he is the stupidest GM in the NHL.

A couple of other GMs gave him a run for his money last night...

But yeah, this is a silly move at first glance. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he asked Boll what he wanted, and is doing the buyout as a favor to a guy who has been a good teammate and player for a long time, rather than send him to the farm.

One of my all time favorite Blue Jackets players is now gone. I'll never forget all the times he stepped up to Clayton Stoner and whooped his ass.

Never liked this contract when it signed and now Jarmo is proving me right. Now why did he sign Prout to a 3 million dollar deal on 2 years ........

Don't get how this move makes him even in the discussion for dumbest GM... AHL bury him, or buy him out... both are so minor for cap issues this and next season.

This. It's the smarter move for the organization imho because he won't be taking up some kid's spot in the AHL. I don't want 30 year old guys taking up a prospect's playing time unless you have to. I wish Boll well, but good move by Jarmo.

thank you Vertigo and others. If Boll is not in the NHL he needs to be off the team. Anyway, if I remember correctly several people have said that the AHL roster is pretty well set already, including one or two tough guys that are lifer-AHL players, so there is not need for him to be there.

But it is a very sad day for many CBJ fans. Boll was a warrior, a guy who took on all comers even when he was the lightweight in the heavyweight division. He didn't win them all, but he protected his teammates, was a great guy in the locker room according to all reports, and in his later years he was good on the forecheck until the game got too fast.

He was a few years too late to have a long career and sadly it seems the game is turning into one where bigger, physical players will become less important unless you are a goalie. It is a shame. Best of luck and God's blessings Jared Boll

I'm no cap geek guy, but this comment is silly. We are not talking about Patrick Kane for heaven's sake.

In fact, he would have been a dumb GM for NOT buying him out and leaving the contract on the books again. He really struggled to crack the lineup last year. I wish the dude well, but this was a good move.

I think the Blue Jackets could find a place in the organization for him, though. The man loves Columbus. I could see them using him as an ambassador or start training him to do commentary with Bob McElligott and/or Jody Shelley. I don't know. He's been here for 11 years.
