I hate when players do this

granted i dont know the entirety of whats going on with marleau, does he really want out? or merely said he "would accept a trade to these teams if you really wanna trade me"

if you request a trade, you should have to sign a form saying your ok with whatever team i can work a deal, its not fair to say "trade me! but only to 1 of these 3 teams"

or in some situations like marty st louis, trade me... but only to the rangers!

thats awful and handcuffs the team dramatically, if you want out then you go wherever helps the team the most via the best trade

I thought the list was expanded to include Chicago and Nashville. I can't envision a way Chicago could work a deal for Marleau given their Cap situation and what SJ would want in return. Nashville, on the other hand, has arguably the best d-corps in the league and could probably figure out something Dougie Wilson would accept.

So, as a Hawks fan, I hope Marleau stays put. I really don't want to see the Preds improve because they're very good already.

Tim,
I agree with you about problems with goaltending - Jones after a great start has been average at best for the last few games and Stalock not much better. However, the problems of the Sharks go way beyond goaltending. The way they've been playing, there's just no juice in this team.

I agree with you Tim. Marleau isn't going anywhere. It sounds like he wants to go to the Rangers and he threw the Kings and the Ducks in there for the hell of it. NY though has no cap room and no draft picks after the deadline trades last year.

I was trying to come up with a scenario that would work for the Ducks and the Sharks and I got nothing. That second year at $6.67 mil is brutal. He ain't going anywhere.

The only way the Kings get involved is if the core of the trade is Brown for Marleau. It would suck to lose Brown, but the Kings need the future cap space for Kopitar's extension and for Toffoli the year after. Knowing the limitations put on Wilson by Marleau, Lombardi wouldn't throw in much else. Maybe a 2nd round pick (The Kings don't have a 1st next season).

i was thinking instead of brown, maybe gaborik? seems almost impossible that DL would move his captain to a division rival, and the length of gabo's deal is just as problematic at his current rate of output.

still agree that the odds of a deal to LA would be slim to none.

love reading about these "won't trade with a division rival" crap. It's like no one ever heard of a 3-way deal. Ok, it's not a trade directly with the rival but, all GM's involved know about the flip. So, essentially, it is a deal with a rival team. Put your thinking caps on and I'm sure you can figure out some 3-way swaps that all 3 teams can live with. There's a plethora of options, maybe even the author can come up with some "unthinkable" swaps and realize that this is not impossible...like previously stated.

A 3-way swap saves the face of all GM's involved when a player put strain on the ability to be moved, in this case; Marleau's list.

What is the likelihood of this happening?

Anaheim has cap space, they can easily go in on a 3-way deal and not have to worry about the cap hit too much.

Rangers need to shed some salary or an "overpaid"player". They will not have much luck working with Kings, they're in the same situation. They would have to give up some value to SJ in order to swap the pick to the other 2 players for a player fitting their mold.

Kings are in the same couch as Rangers. Options are few with a direct trade. Kings need salary to stay with SJ in order for a direct trade to happen. Their "dancing" partner in this deal would and could only be the Rangers (unless Chi and Preds are involved) and ship out an equal cap value or ask Rangers to retain salary, which space the Rangers don't have.

So, what is the likelihood of a 3-way swap with the Ducks or Kings? Slim to none with the Kings and very likely with the Ducks.

Unless SJ finds another dance partner i can only see Marleau going to the Ducks.

Edit: typed in Ducks or Kings, should only be Kings in the 5th paragraph. Sorry

Soured on Gaborik already? He is coming off a season where he was only 1 goal shy of Jeff Carter for the goal scoring lead on the Kings. Prior to that, he was very nearly a point-per-game player thru the 45 regular season and playoff games that he played for the Kings in 2013-14. Granted, Gaborik hasn't looked great so far this season, but we're only 15 games in. There's still plenty of time for him to right the ship. Kopitar only had 3 points thru the first 11 games of last season and came back to lead the team in scoring by the end of the year.

Gaborik is signed to a long-term and cap-friendly $4.875M contract. He has played the better part of two seasons with Kopitar and the two have shown that they have chemistry together. Why get rid of him?

Marleu would actually be a nice addition to the Kings. But I wouldn't be willing to part with much to acquire him. take Brown off of our hands.... please. Pretty please?

We have a Brown already....y'all need to send your Brown somewhere else. How about Torres for Brown?

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if a 3 way deal is done and Patty is moved to one of the teams he is requesting. I like Patty and hope he retired a Shark but the Sharks need change and I think Patty could use a change too. Thinking of him with Chicago would be heart breaking but Pattys speed with the skill Chicago has would be fun to watch. NO Idea who I would hope the Sharks bring back for the trade.

Things are already this sour between pistol pete and Marleau? All the Devils fans told us that Petey loved underperforming vets and benched young up and comers.

so what you're saying is that there is a propensity for aggressive man-on-man sexual activity in the Sharks locker room? got it, thanks.

The cap room reason is such an embarrassing lack of knowledge by people who post and print such things. Its not like New York is going to trade nothing for Marleau (although that might be a bit of over payment by New York). Teams trade salaries for salaries. An easy example would be you trade Marleau's 6 million to NY, and New York trades back a total of 6 mill in salaries, rather it be 1,2 or 3 players. It's pretty simple using basic 3rd grade math.

Let's be realistic here, the Kings don't need a declining 36 yr old winger, with an attitude problem and who doesn't play defense. We all know Sutter got fired in SJ because he demanded Marleau play hard and benched him twice for it.

Anaheim doesn't want Marleau either he doesn't fit there physical all in style of play. In actuality very few teams would be interested in Marleau, though I do think AV the coach of the Rangers would trade for Marleau as AV is a terrible team chemistry coach, who doesn't believe in the team concept.
