Hitchcock will be fine for the regular season. Blues wont have any trouble finishing in a solid position there.

The issue will be once the playoffs come around.

Tippett makes too much sense. If they want to tank (and the club's offseason moves show that they do), remove all competent components of that coaching staff. Yotes already have an incompetent at GM, so why let Tippett interfere with the plan?

Tim Chiasson: Ken Hitchcock

After leading the Blues to the (tied-for) best record in the Western Conference last year, Hitchcock was nearly fired after another disappointing playoff performance. He was kept on with a one year contract extension.

There is no other coach on a hotter seat than Ken Hitchcock.

The Blues just haven't had the playoff success that you'd think of when associating their strong play in the regular season with actual results. They've under-performed when it counts and that's going to rest on Hitchcock, whether it's right or wrong.

If the Blues flame out again in the playoffs - or struggle early in the season - there could be a change behind the bench in St. Louis.

For some reason I thought this stuff was said last year.................

And the Blues flamed out early in the playoffs and he came back. Even though many think his seat is hot, I don't. He will likely be here as long as he wants to. Because ownership and Armstrong love him. His seat may be warm, but no warmer than pretty much any other coach in the league.

It is probably going to take a terrible regular season for him to be fired. And that isn't going to happen without major injuries to several top players. The Blues will be at the top of the Central and then the playoffs will start and we will see what happens this year. Then Hitch will see if he wants to coach again next year....

If the Blues flame out early in the playoffs this year, Doug Armstrong will be out the door first and by default, so will the Great Pumpkin.

James Tanner can't spell his own teams' coaches name right. First Tippett, then Tippitt. Do you guys even read your own articles before posting them?

If the Blues don't at least make it to the WCF, Armstrong is gone and Hitch will be guilty by association.

Hitchcock obviously now that McLellan is gone. Julien was pretty much set up to be fired this season, and I dont understand firing a great coach in Tippett just cause they're half-ass rebuilding, not his fault they rely on Doan and two kids this year. The flames kept Hartley, im sure Domi and Duclair can flourish under Tippett if they just get a decent goaltender and trade Doan if he doesn't retire

You really think so? Stillman loves Armstrong. I don't see it. Fans may want him out, but ownership?

Army hires the coach that keeps failing. Whose fault is that? Changing of the guards needs to happen if yet another pIayoff disaster. Army shouId be on the hotseat and Hitch wiII just decide to retire for a year or 2 before he is fired. Does StiIIman reaIIy Iike Army that much or does he just put on a facade to the pubIic. I think he was pretty mad after Iast season. Not sure how much trading Oshie and signing Brodziak, UpshaII, and Gomez does for a shakeup. We stiII have the same core Ieadership, Backes, Steen, Petro, Bergy, Shatt, etc etc.

Yeah, I do. Without a doubt.

Stillman may love Armstrong but business is business and the Blues can't afford little to no playoff revenue year after year.

Stillman will join a long, undistinguished list of Blues owners whose parent companies could not sustain the continued hemorrhaging of money for a long stretch. Some of whom were nefarious but others who had the best of intentions.

They all ultimately landed in the same place. Being forced to put a For Sale sign in the front yard.

If DA is going to allow Hitchcock year after to year to decide if he wants to continue coaching, he'll possibly seal his own fate.

Frankly, if I have a coach that doesn't know from one year to the next if he wants to continue coaching, I don't want him around. He's already got one foot out the door mentally in my book.
