This kid is going to be good. Can't wait to see him along with Erne and DeAngelo when they make it to the NHL.

I don't take issue with drafting Mitchell Stephens in the second because he showed some offensive skill in the OHL and WJC before the draft. Already a good two way player with some skill... could be the next Killorn if his offense continues to improve or a Callahan type at worst offensively if he pans out.

After going D with spencer I felt they took three flyers on players who have skill Yan (clearly skilled, can he turn into a Kucherov), Cirelli (this season we will really see what he can do offensively with the players leaving Oshawa in front of him) and Tammela.

Point's draft year was the 91 points Mike. He was a first round talent with heart and drive. Such a waste falling to the third round. Enjoy the steal

Unlike certain people, I won't jump to conclusion about our draft picks until they pass or fail in our system.

Our success rate for making the team has been high the last few years, but then again look where we started. What is the normal success rate over a five year period maybe 20-25% make the jump?

It sounds as though these latest draftees are pretty well thought of.

Mitchell Stephens report:
High character player with a great compete level and leadership intangibles. Good skater who is relentless on the forecheck. Plays an evolved defensive game for his age.

And just like those past drafts where our picks were not the "spotlight" type picks, I also feel that this year we should practice patience before labeling these players or this draft class. If anything the track record of the Bolts drafting shows maybe there is more to these picks than what the "experts" felt leading into the draft. Obviously the intangibles are the highlights of many of these guys, but a common theme among many of the picks was each of them had "untapped potential" that the Bolts felt they could open.

Going pick by pick you can see where this comes from...
Bolts feel Stephens has more offense than what he has shown
Spencer is a d-man so offense is secondary (but still has offensive zone skills)
Yan definitely has offensive potential as a scorer
Cirelli was "buried" on his 3rd line so he could easily breakout offensively this year on a scoring line
Tammela being in Finland is hard to gauge what he is (best case a mix between Prust and Marchand?)
Joseph certainly looks like a bottom liner but with more size can he be a net front guy?
Zuhlsdorf while never producing much is labeled as a finesse puck mover so maybe there's more points to be had
Oldham-Well not many goalies can produce points like Bishop
Imama-may not score goals but will score a KO

Obviously character and 2-way play was a common theme, but like I said I truly believe there is more skill here than what many are saying. Hopefully one or 2 of these guys has some Palat type hidden skill that comes out later and end up making this class a bit more balanced between skill and grit than what we have seen in the past

I like the Spencer pick. He's a solid, aggressive, stay-at-home guy that can play on the bottom four. From Boltprospects.com:
Strengths:
Mobile defenseman with excellent agility for his size. Good size and strength and willing to take the body along the wall. Makes good decisions and outlet passes when the puck is on his stick. Has a good understanding of when to pinch to hold plays in the offensive zone and when not to. Big slap shot. Assertive with good leadership intanglibles.
Weaknesses:
Limited offensive upside and knows it, therefore staying in his silo offensively. Needs to work on his consistency in positioning in the defensive zone.
Projection:
Second pair defenseman.

Our defense is 4 years?

If Witkowski cant crack our top6 within 4 years i cant see him being around. Also strålman will be 33, he could be resigned.
