it's still such a new artform. 3 or 4 generations old. guys coming up now love louis and chappelle, who loved hicks, carlin and pryor, those guys had lenny bruce and red foxx.

i think that world is so small they get to co-mingle more than in music and acting

also i guess comedians are able to stay more grounded and genuine. obviously they can get popular but none really get to the level of musicians worshiped as gods or movie stars as paparazzi sex symbols
