That surprises me a bit, in the regard that while public appearances can be misleading, Tim Murray strikes me as an absolute a-hole to work with -- Pat LaFontaine lasted all of 15 seconds with him, and he did Ted Nolan dirty, IMO
- AllInForFlyers

Nolan was for sure done dirty. Hope he finds a coaching spot elsewhere before the start of next season. Players from buff seemed to really like him. If I remember correctly he was a big impact for Moulson returning?

It seemed odd to me that people were saying he'd never get another coaching job. Didn't he do exactly what the Sabres wanted in tanking?

Maybe he wasn't on board with the tanking personally. Maybe his pride wanted to compete and win as many games as they could. Doesn't help trading away your starting goalie tho

Bobby Mac wrote or tweeted that he and Murray didn't see eye to eye, but what struck me as wrong is that if you gave him the shiv because he wasn't totally on board with losing...ugh. I hate what went on up there, including the trading of the goaltender who was winning too many games

is it true that Hakstol notified his players he was leaving by sending them a text that simply said "im outie" ?

if so that is despicable

- Crimsoninja

I heard it was a mass text to all his players of this emoji:

I was surprised anybody was surprised he was fired at the end of the season. It was a surprise party of sorts.

ESPN update Mike Babcock in negotiations to become Sabers Coach.
- arichardson22

I heard on the Fan 560 that it was always his dream to be the Sabres coach.

I do believe I read that, as well -- Nolan might not be all hugs and kisses, but he's gotten done wrong up there twice

Ted Nolan was given a poopty deal in NYI and Buff. I'd love to see him end up somewhere else. Hell maybe he can make San Jose produce in the playoffs

Also, when Berube was let go, team massage therapist Brad Smith - a popular locker-room figure - was relieved of his duties, leaving some to wonder whether other changes to the equipment or training staffs could be on the horizon.

Berube talked accountability but never came through on it. He didn't bench people who should have been all year. He sits Vinny but plays Rinaldo ? Stupidity. I love the signing, and Hextalls explanation, basically saying, I can care less what whining fans will think. I also loved when Hextall said, might not be exactly what he said but close... " Won't take players long to know who's in charge" That tells me, it's players next on the way out, not the coach
- twpguy

Well they just hired a coach, so I don't see them changing coaches anytime soon. Accountability has to be taken with a grain of salt. In pro sports, true and equal accountability really doesn't exist. Berube didn't practice selective accountability. It's the same with every pro sports team. Some players will get more leeway, and more rope than others.

I don't know if it's true or not, I didn't even hear anything along those lines, but I have a really hard time believing that a 46 year old, college hockey coach sent a text of all things, using the verbiage "I'm outie".

I also don't know if this was a joke or not... lol

- benjichronic

It doesn't matter if it's true. Criticize first, find any pessimistic angle that you can, and find out the facts later.

Luke's not a god awful player. And I think that's another thing most people can acknowledge. When an opponent is trying to rush up the boards on him, it's pretty safe to say that 90% of the time, luke is pasting them to the boards. That's one thing I'll go as far as saying he's great at. 2 big dudes in front of the net? You can trust that most of the time luke's gonna move them out of the way for mase to track the puck. He's slower than (frank)ing molasses like you said, and his positioning could be better. And we'd all love if he good just make a good (frank)ing first pass. I think his passing & speed are two of his biggest weaknesses.
- benjichronic

I don't think his passing is that bad, his outlet passing of the puck is underrated. He makes a solid first pass. His issues are positioning, and getting caught flat footed too many times, along with inconsistency.

When he connects on his passes he's solid. Too many times (along the lines of what you were saying with inconsistency) I've seen his clearing / outlet passes picked off. I also know he's not a offensive guy, but too many o zone turnovers as well, and he's caught flat footed and ends up chasing the guy back into the d zone. But yeah, positioning is a big thing for him, and who knows, maybe with the new system/coach, and another year of maturation from him, he connects the dots better.

One can hope, he has ability. Too many brain cramps. He's been in the league a significant time. He shouldn't be making the rookie errors he makes.

I thought buffalo was the no brainer pick for Babcock. Young assets out the ass with tons of picks.

Can't compete with a team coming off a 54 point season, in the armpit of the United States.

That's ok, Snider is hoping the Flyers have the next Babcock!
