DOUGIE!

If I am going to critique any part of Hamilton's game, it would be physicality. I REALLY wish 27 would hit more, and just show a mean side. Having said that, I dont think his character really has room for that. Dougie is too nice.

The D zone mistakes will get better with time. I honestly think he has Norris potential in him. No way he leaves the B's. I think the team has seen enough of his upside to reward the kid. See if he will take the bridge deal, if not, dont mess around and just give the kid a long term contract at a reasonable rate.

Unless they unload Seidenberg (or Chara...but don't get me started), it has to be a bridge deal. They lack defensive depth to have $21M tied up in 3 defensemen.

His deal should and will be closer to what PK the Turtle got after is ELC ran out: 2 years, a shade under 3mil a year. I'll even predict if he'd take 2.3-2.4, the Bruins would possibly go year to year like they're doing with Krug.

(frank)ing burke.

I know it's tight, but i think it would be a great move to lock Hamilton up now for 6-7 years.

I would offer sheet Dougie 100%. We have a tonne of young talent and Mcdavid is coming. We don't need any more draft picks. I would pay up to 7 years x 7 mill for Dougie. Boston couldn't afford to match that with their cap troubles.

How many Connor McDavid offer sheets do you think are already drafted up for when he becomes an RFA in 3 years?

There is an excellent possibility he gets an offer sheet, for several reasons:
1) His age - an offer sheet of 7 years will likely expire after the best years of his career

2) Boston's cap situation - they will have a hard time matching, and considering the overall age of the team etc. they may just take the picks.

3) The threat of getting offer sheets in return sounds great - but it never happens....and if you don't believe me, show me a couple of examples where a team that provided an offer sheet got theirs.....It just never happens. And the offer sheets for McDavid will be over $8,410,977 that's going to be four 1sts. No one will do that - ever.

That said no way does an offer sheet go over $6.7 X 7 years for Hamilton....$6,728,781 to be exact. At that it's a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Over that and its two 1st's, 2nd and 3rd. That's too much for him.

Alternatively - When I look at Boston - they need help up front - would a Hamilton for Leon Draisaitl trade be of interest?

Chara, Lucic, and Kelly would clear 15.9 mil if they were moved. Currently 3 RFA's and 3 UFA's with 6.192 mil in cap space . Savard's contract can't be moved to LTIR until the next season starts and counts as 4.027 mil. 26 mil and chump change could be cleared, minus whatever you bring in. It makes no sense to keep Kelly and let Soderberg walk. Moving Chara seems more logical cap wise with Seidenberg being the cheaper veteran. I'm not ready to give up on Eriksson. I don't think he's been able to show us his full potential. Both of them could have better value at the trade deadline, if they don't pan out. While I should clarify its not detrimental if Chara isn't moved. We can't afford to keep both Seidenberg and Chara and go after Dougie.

Leafs would do 4 1st's all day long for McDavid when he hits his offer sheet years.

Market won't tolerate a proper rebuild.

To be fair, the Leafs don't really have anything else to offer.
