Why bother? You've already seen how much a team that has Kessel and lacks a #1 center has done, why try a similar experiment? Yes, the Devils have an exponentially better goaltender than the Leafs have had since they acquired him. No argument there. They have some talented young defenseman, but they aren't quite developed all the way yet.

Build your offense from the center position out. It's far easier to transition a center to the wing than vice versa.

No way man, this is the Devils. When they make moves other teams have in the past that seem to "violate the spirit of the CBA", they lose picks. Meaning in this scenario we would trade you our first this year, have to give the league our first next year plus pay a fine of some sort.

Both are basically 20G/40P players. And Zajac is worlds better defensively than he is as creating offense or finishing. I'd hardly write home about either.

Kessel will be doing a lot of his own work. And when a guy has a perception of questionable work ethic...well...

The Leafs might be well served to investigate what else would be involved to facilitate a Kessel swap for Malkin. It might require giving up Gardiner too, but regardless what Gino says about wanting to stay in Pittsburgh, moving to T.O. to be the "go to" guy, might just be the motivation he needs to reach his potential. Kessel definitely needs a change in scenery, and a sniper on the wing might be just what the doctor ordered for Crosby.

Is this possible? I doubt it, but interesting to think about.
