If he goes full Jultz on you guys, it's probably for the best. You never go full Jultz.

Hopefully this turns out as well for the Jackets as Schultz turned out for the Ducks.

Agreed , you get drafted by a team, that team invests time and money in your development.

That being said, it just so happens Reilly's dad is a minority owner for the Minnesota Wild ,just saying.

Every time I watch Kevin Hayes score on a highlight reel I cringe this is a BS loophole I agree. Totally unfair to small market teams like CBJ. The Hayes situation is a whole different animal, but equally as frustrating for the fans/team that drafted the player and developed him for 4 years.

Same thing can happen with any draft pick if they refuse to sign with the team. Erixon screwed us because his Dad & his connections with the Rangers & the Flames were in dire need of young D & would have been a huge opportunity. Look how that has worked out for him. These kids have exceptional talent but that doesn't always translate to the NHL & they need to show a bit of loyalty to the team that drafted them. We were mortified Gaudreau was going that route & we stewed about whether he signs with us until he finally did. I think you treat the kid & his family with class & they will want to be part of the organization. Teams don't spend a lot of $$$ developing these College players because they aren't allowed to. They do invest a draft pick & there should be some kind of contract the team can work outwit the young player to ensure the team can retain rights to the player for longer after they leave College. Scary thing is that Hanafin & Eichel ave the ability to do the same thing if they decide they want to play in the College & complete the lion share of their education before going pro.

They should not be allowed to be drafted if they are going to college it's as simple as that. when they are willing to go to a team in the NHL then make them draft elgible for that yrs draft. and if they decline to play for that team send them packing so that no other team can have them. columbus did spend money but it was not much but that ain't the point he got drafted and now it seem like he want's to play for his dad. i'm really happy the kid is trying to get an education but once that is done and he thinks he is ready for the NHL he should have to play for the team that drafted him or be redrafted.

teams don't invest ALOT of money in College player.....

They have to pay the scout to see him pre draft, and then they still have to do follow ups on that player, meaning a scout or someone from the organization has to check up on him , let alone they still have to fly them in for development camps (lodging ,food ,etc).

Don't college players have to pay their own way to the camps? Pretty sure the team that drafted them is not allowed to pay for anything

at least you still get draft pick compensation for not being able to sign Hayes.
But losing Reilly and just getting a 4th round pick for him sort of blows. Hopefully Jackets can trade his rights and get a better pick out of it, or at least get a Horvat for Erixon kind of trade

Small market teams are leeches that don't deserve to be on the same level as big market teams. They don't even have any fans to appreciate them. The salary cap is already in place for them, and that royally (frank)ed a lot of big market teams. So (frank) the small market teams, the league has done way more than enough for them.

Agreed! I'm sick of paying higher ticket prices, to subsidize $20.00 tickets in the sunbelt. If it doesn't work in 3 years? No more revenue sharing! The fanbase in those have not cities need to put up, or shut up!

Exactly. Enough is enough. Why should huge, passionate fanbases suffer at the expense of poop franchises like columbus and phoenix. Cause the NHL is an American league that's only about the money know, that's why. They better give us McDavid, but I bet he ends up in Arizona
