At this point, depleted or not. Berube has to go. He has lost the team. Let Berube watch begin.

They had the coach they needed. Lavy. However, the brain trust got peter slow and hulking dmen for his system which does not work. Upper mananagement screwed him over and this franchise for years to come. Craig should not be coaching this team but this wont change till be come crashing to the finish line. Need to unload of some horrible contracts/players by the deadline or offseason. A lot of work to do here. But first thing that must be figured out is the front offie/drafting then to coaching then to the players.

This team is so exciting to watch. I can't wait for their games and will stop at nothing to see them. The heart and determination they show is undenialable. I can't see how with the incredible team that has been assembled that they don't win the cup. They are great top to bottom, even the front office is top notch. Can't wait to watch their next game, why can't it be today.

I see all teams in the future molded after this current Flyers roster.

At this point, they may as well let Berube finish out the string and guide them to a top 5 pick.

The biggest problem with firing Breube is who do you get to replace him?? Something has to jolt this team.....Rebuild? You already have some young talent...ie Couturier and Schenn...and two mid twenty guys vying for the Art Ross....they need too find a way to retool...hopefully Vinny continues his pace and someone grabs him...but truthfully Vinny is only the start.

They will lose, often
They will sell off some vets
They will fire the coach
They will pray to win the draft lottery

Yup, unless Holmgren or a placeholder like Paddock is willing to coach out the string, you roll with Berube til April and then bring in your guy.

It's also not wise to offer a contract with either term or a higher salary to a guy like Schultz based on 20 games of play this season. I'm open to another 1-year deal, but not banking that he's turned a corner this late in his career. You can find a Schultz reclamation project any summer. Don't overpay now.

Go ahead with your bad self, Raffl.

That Jagr kid looks like he's going to be pretty good.

June's shopping catalog - http://www.isshockey.com/iss-top-30-december-2014/. Does wanting 2 or 3 top 30 picks seem greedy?

Berube is not the problem nor is the fact that the team has two big frame D-men who aren't speedsters. It runs deeper than that. Chris Pronger and Kimmo Timonen are gone and -- for various reasons -- haven't been close to adequately replaced. The team is years removed from the last time it had a second forward line (the last one being Hartnell-Briere-Leino) that it could keep together regularly and get any sort of reliable production beyond the top line.

As for Berube, I consider him along similar lines to John Stevens during his head coaching tenure here: basically adequate but pushing the wrong buttons at times.

I'm fine with not re-signing Schultz. What I will say, though, is that he hasn't so much "turned a corner" as gotten back to the way he typically played during the Minnesota years of his career. There's no reason why, if healthy, he can't continue to do that for several more years. I will also say that for every Schultz that works out, there are two Bruno Gervais or Kurtis Foster projects that do not work out.

True

It's pretty hard to win with a bunch of 4,5 & 6 dmen, a 2nd line that doesn't score and a 3rd line weighed down with RJ Umberger and the guy that used to be Matt Read and the leagues worst PK. However, Berube still needs to go at seasons end. I want a head coach who is better than basically adequate.

At a reasonable rate and for only a couple of years, sure re-sign Schultz.

I'm just not sure he's the guy you want around, stewarding the kids any longer:

- He basically did the hockey equivalent of driving Akeson out into the middle of the woods to "set him free",
- He's got Coots buried up to his neck in defensive responsibilities (to facilitate Vinny's marshmallow minutes),
- He more or less bought Gus his ticket to Russia,
- Baby Schenn is still bouncing between lines and positions,
- Ghost was barely used at all in his first cup of coffee,
- MDZ went from a smashing reclamation success into a spare part used at forward,
- Nobody is more lost to the team than Luke Schenn.

That going rate will be about $3M to $3.5M, absolutely for two seasons and possibly for a third. I don't like the cost but that's the reality because the market on defensemen is way out of whack.
