Injury riddled team with a poor performance in the 2nd game of a back to back on the road. Nothing to see here. Definitely no need to panic.

But man I knew Stralman was good but I didn't expect him to look this good in a top pair role. Wish my Red Wings would have gone after him.

Did they completely ignore him and focus on Niskanen only?

Holland had all his eggs in the Niskanen basket. Boyle was his backup plan and by the time they had signed elsewhere anyone relevant was gone. They desperately need a RH defenseman and Stralman would look good paired with Kronwall. The PP is awful and I think a big part of that is only having on RH shot on the active roster.

I knew they were targeting Niskanen heavily, but didn't realize that Stralman wasn't even on the radar. Very interesting!

Stralman's agent replied a succinct "no" when asked if the Wings were on Stralman's short list — but the five years, $22.5 million Straman ended up getting from Tampa Bay was more term than the Wings wanted to give a defenseman deemed in the same quality range as Jakub Kindl.

They undervalued Stralman. Clearly Holland doesn't read year blog or look at WOWY Corsi stats

Holland has had some very poor free agents of recent years. I am glad Filppula was able to come down here and get more ice time. Always loved his 2 way play.

Be careful with those words. You'll make some enemies around here rather quickly.

we can still take comfort in the fact that mtl is 7-1-0 and their only loss is getting destroyed by us

Now you know what it's like being a Detroit fan. But it is one of the drawbacks of being a skilled possession minded team.

This game is so exactly what Jon Cooper needed to get these (frank)ers motivated. I remember last season right after we lost Stamkos, we went on that West Coast swing and got our asses handed to us on a platter. They could use this as motivation to get us back on track, hopefully he'll do the same with this game. When you have a combination of bad luck, slow play, tired, injures galore and playing a good/talented team this is the result.

Good.

I'm glad we got our butts handed to us. It's been coming, and the boys needed it... time to stop relying on the incredible talent this club has (even with injuries) and start upping the work ethic.

Nabby's performance tonight was very uncharacteristic compared to the solid performances he gave us before which was surprising. Anyone know how long everyone's injured for. I really miss watching the hedman Stralman pairing play

Those had to be some of the softest goals of his career. Only bright spot was they threw a few checks. Two turnovers two goals, a whiff first shot by Pommerville and Bish was faked out and got caught on the second one. I was waiting for Rod Serling to say you have entered the Twilight Zone.
I know we're down men but I'd rather have two D men on the PP- too many short handed opportunities right now with the set up. Time to move on to the Phoenix game.

A coach using THIS game to berate his team is probably asking for trouble. A coach can always complain about lack of effort. But I equate modern day NHL coaching to being a parent. "Pick your battles". Nobody makes an issue about this game if the score is 4-2 or even 5-2. But fans are not used to seeing 7 goals a game being let up. Plenty of reasons for this. Injuries, Back to back games, Goalie giving up 4 goals on 8 shots?(wow), And the biggest reason is that you had to play the Wild. This team is a buzz saw right now. Bishop starts you lose 3-2, 4-2, maybe 5-2.................... See above!

Mtl lost the last game of a 4 games road trip 7-1.
Tampa lost the last game of a 5 games road trip 7-2.

Nothing to see here.

Nabby stinks... how could TB not find a more reliable backup?
Wild did a great job of keeping your top line in check and there wasn't much secondary help for you guys last night, aside from Stralman who was an awesome pickup for the Bolts.
Like you guys said, second game of a back to back so no reason at all to be concerned. Bolts will be battling for top East spot in the end, so long as the injury bug doesn't bite you.

yep. Mtl also had 4 games in six nights.
Losing 1-0 or 7-1 doesn't matter. They lost 2 pts.
