the dumbest is that i've seen stuff online, mainly wreddit but my wrassling follows on twitter too, that are like:

"IMAGINE IF AEW GETS ADAM COLE! THAT WOULD BE A HUGE DRAW AND IN AEW HE COULD BE A HUGE MEGA STAR UNLIKE IN WWE"

and i'm just like "who the (frank) is adam cole?"

seen the same poop for guys like Chad Gable, Apollo Crews, a bunch of guys I found out are NXT talents, etc.

those guys are smark draws, and your smarks are already ALL IN on this poop anyway.

Even getting Ambrose probably won't move the needle one bit to get Jeb from Tallahassee into a AEW customer.

WWE was "smart" if you believe Vince intentionally never made another Rock/Austin so that Vince controlled the star power versus the wrestler. because even AJ or DB moving to that company isn't going to cause more than a handful of ripples.

Like they'd need Cena, Roman and Brock and they're never getting even a returned text message from those guys.

- Lindenis#1

Yup. Cole isn't a top draw in nxt, and was alway a 2 or 1B guy in ROH, he's white bread with a little bit of charisma.

Others guys you mentioned are talented guys who have no it factor. Sometimes you need more than athleticism to be a good pro wrestler. Ambrose has been vanilla post shield.

Lesnar has more change in his cup holder tha n what AEW could offer him.

ROH is good. But only if you accept if as a rich indy promotion.

AEW will be run by guys who are marks for themselves with a huge bank account like WCW. The difference is that the Khan family will pull the plug sooner for the son's vanity project.

- mr.peanut

ROH just never reached out to me for some reason. like i never even knew what channel they were on so i never learned who was on their roster or anything. do the storylines suck? see i'm afraid the storylines suck.

and i think that's exactly what AEW is going to do, flame out in the same way WCW did but like 975% faster. like a lightning bolt instead of a small sun of some sort.

Like, say they get Rollins. Big get, top guy in WWE, and even smarkiest smarks are wiling to admit the guy is like top 3 on the planet.

Would that get new viewers? Some for sure. Will that sustain viewers? Not when your business plan revolves around limited content (non weekly TV, 4-6 PPVs a year) it almost becomes irrelevant when someone else is pumping out tons of content that the entire wrestling fandom is already aware of and has available.

Because that guy that came for Rollins, might stick around a little. But when he doens't get to see Rollins for 3-4 weeks, he's going right back to WWE, kinda forgetting about AEW and getting invested in (frank)ing... Mojo Rawley or Elias or Finn or Corbin.

It's on the Fight Network up here ( the parent company owns both ) thwy are good purwly for wrestling, but it is so bland regarding everything else. Promos are meh. Commenators are marks. Fans are trying to get themsleves over. All things people turn away from.

The "it factor" is why I struggle to ever get into a lot of these indy guys and promotions. Every dude looks the same. 5'10, 185lbs, black "edgy" trucks, beard, long brown hair. Then they all have the same moveset of moving at 110mph and stealing finishers as basic moves and then kicking out of a finishing spot 12 times before being put away by like 13 moves at once.

I'll take Elias any day over someone who can do flips and poop but has the personality of cardboard. Elias has a character and a presence. I don't care if he's a basic wrestler move wise.

Like, they'd have to legit go the WCW route if they want to be the competition they think they're going to be as quickly as they want. They'd have to buy Brock, Cena, Roman (when he's healthy), Braun, Rollins, etc.

Basically leave WWE with like Bobby Lashley vs Baron Corbin in their main event.

last ROH show I watched looked like it was filmed on an iPhone 4 in an elementary school gym. i don't remember anything about the wrestlers but it was like a cage match and it was basically 15 minutes of guys climbing up the cage and hitting different gymnastics moves off the cage before eventually somebody got pinned.

No casual cares about cody rhodes, the young bucks or hangman page. They are are over with a small percentage of people. Cody leaving didn't hurt wwe ratings or inprove roh/iwgp viewership.

AEW is just giving me such TNA vibes when like Christian vs Angle was the top feud and they kept taking WWE midcarders and acting like getting RVD got them Steve Austin.

Cody Rhodes is a fine wrestler, but he's nothing special. If he's one of their top guys, it would be like if Rusev vs Sami Zayn was at the top of the WWE card.

Indys including aew and roh are good for 20 minute spot fests.

Love Elias not for his wrestling (don't know if it's even good), but he controls an audience and you want to hear what he will say and do.

caper's put it best before when we were talking about TNA.

he said something like "TNA could have the Rock, Austin, Brock, etc. show up on their TV show tomorrow and I'm not changing the channel" because its still the (frank)ing AHL.

At least Angle was a legit main eventer and Christian proved he was a fringe short term main eventer/high card guy. RVD flopped because he couldn"t cut a promo. Anyone with a star factor will stay with wwe and be given a generous extension with that fox money.

yeah. maybe i'm just too "mainstream lame-o" guy or whatever but that doesn't sound good to me. i need good storylines and i absolutely need good promos. i grew up on promos. flair and savage. piper. i mean everyone back then. so many people. poop arn anderson was a great promo. so i'm spoiled that way. i can't just watch guys wrestle.

that's fair. but from what little i've seen, Omega's pretty top tier himself. so say it was Omega vs Zayn (new christian). You get what I'm saying.

but according to twitter, the top feud is going to be Omega vs a 48 year old Chris Jericho (who dresses like the clockwork orange guy now)

i watched some old flair promos and then the youtube autoplay took me into a well of 80s/90s promos. i'd seen most of them before but god damn

there was one where jake was talking about how he got a giant heel boner watching his snake torture elizabeth and Randy. It was (frank)ing captivating.

TBH, I loved TNA pre Hogan. Holy (frank) you could get some elite wrestling, promos, and angles. Just watch the build for Angle vs Samoa Joe for LockDown 2008. One of the best angles in wrestling history. They also provided great women, tag, hardcore and cruiserweight action. They were the B promotion put the put out A content, their issue was they always gave ex-wwe guys the keys to the castle.

i watched kinda sparingly around that 08ish time period, never PPVs, and sadly i didn't really give it a chance until it was too late. i wouldn't plan my evening around it, but if i saw it on i would watch it but that was around the time they switched to the 4 sided ring.

Omega is overrated as (frank). Styles, Anderson and Gallows left and that gave Omega the spot as promo guy for the hot bullet club act and made the bucks the top team in the faction. Christian did a good job as top jaded heel in TNA ( storyline was that sting took his spot and couldn't let a younger guy get over). Cnristian was always portrayed as weasley in wwe, but when he had a TNA faction looked great.

i'm actually going back and trying to piece together old 80's territories shows in order or trying to find youtube channels where some guy will have like "every weekly episode of midsouth wrestling seasons 3, 4, and 5" or some poop to see if i can get into the storylines and the feuds. jerry lawler was a yuge deal. and he looks like a chubby kid with a bad beard, not the old guy with the plastic surgery and the heart attacks that i know.

EDIT: oh sorry, my point with all of this was that the promos were just so much better back then and the stories were what really hooked you.

even when i look in on wwe i don't know who 80% of them are. that was a really big blast of talent turnover in a short time. i stopped watching around whatever wrestlemania that was when they brought sting in so it's not like i got out 10 years ago. and i could watch 3 matches in a row now and not recognize 1 guy. it's weird. so i'm pretty sure i'll never go back.
