Sam Gagner was traded twice within 90 minutes Sunday night, first from the Edmonton Oilers to Tampa Bay and then from the Lightning to the Arizona Coyotes. The Oilers got winger Teddy Purcell from the Lightning in exchange for centre Gagner. The Lightning then flipped him to the Coyotes ALONG WITH tough guy B.J. Crombeen for a sixth-round pick.

I never understood why they were paying $5 mill to a guy that would regularly be a 3rd liner

Oilers get a real player back for Gagner from Tampa...and couldn't retain salary on him before July 1st because they were already at...

...max of 3 retained salaries on Dubnyk, Hemsky, Schultz deals. Gagner's NMC kicked in July 1st.
