Eric... honest question. Do you think the Bruins could have gotten more for Seguin?

i think you need to be careful with Gionta. smart teams know when to move on from players, especially ones Gionta's age.

I don't give a flying (frank) about them... I'm actually happy for their loss.

Only trying to understand the contentness of it is all.

never worked for you before. I suggest a more modest goal to begin with.

Yes.
But they made an underrated deal. No one really knew what Reilly Smith would be.

More to the point, and I got into this on the radio the other day, the off-ice crap with Seguin gave Boston an opportunity to move him without the massive PR blowback.

They have a window to win. It was last year, this year, next year, and then things change for them. Krejci is going to be a UFA, so is Boychuk. Lucic the following year.

They weren't going to promote Seguin to centre over Bergeron and Krejci (not this year, and not next year). And they weren't getting the best out of him at wing.

So they traded him for a natural winger, and one who they felt would fit better next to Bergeron and Marchand on that line. There was no way to predict Eriksson would get concussed twice. But Smith has been excellent for them too, and Eriksson has come around.

Like I said, it helped them make the move that Seguin was a disaster off the ice. And for all intents and purposes, they improved their chances at a Stanley Cup this year, or next year with the move they made.

Over the long-term, there's no winning a deal that involves such a young and incredible talent.

I wish they traded him to a different team... I personally don't like the Stars.

No to Gionta's extension.

We have leadership in many other players and can find another guy, with more grit and size, on the market for the same price. We got enough pk and defensive talent.

Don't undervalue the size problem of the Habs. Might not be apparent against TB in the first round. But if we go them, the problem will be enlighten.

He will ask for 3,5-4M$ per kind of money.

Too much for what he brings.

they're going to move on from him, but if he's still around if they've whiffed on Vanek, they'll resign him, and it'll be for a reasonable amount.

But I think the likelihood is, someone else is going to sign him on July 1st, because he's proven valuable.

And btw, I'm going to take the unpopular stance here, and suggest he scores over 20 next season. Confidence from this year+recovery in the offseason is going to help him be better. He couldn't shoot the puck for most of this year, because he hasn't had the time to properly rehabilitate.

Makes sense. I still think they lacked some patience before pulling the trigger.

Well he can ask that if he wants...but I don't think anyone is giving him that.

There is likely room for him on the habs at 2 years 5 Mill.

None more evident than Eric Gryba being victimized by Lars Eller for a nice goal (it would've been the winner, had Mika Zibanejad not popped one with five minutes left in the hockey game).

It would have been the winner if it would have been the winner!
