This is such a bizarre situation. I just want some clarity from someone in the organization. Marty's cryptic interview is just annoying. If you want out, say it rather than drag the team down with you.

Too (frank)ing bad, he shouldn't have signed the contract.

(frank) these whiny millionaires...(frank)ing living like Kings and then complaining they want to play for a different team.

Show up to work, make your $600k/mth and shut the (frank) up.

The end.

Maybe he loves Torts...

But that doesn't explain the request now.

Likely his wife wanted to move closer to her family. Yes, Marty is human and not a saint.

This story does keep getting better and better. A royal fuster cluck.

Tie a plane ticket to NY to a flag pole 8 feet off the ground. If Marty can reach it, he can get traded to NY. Otherwise, he will honor his contract, like it, and shut the frank up.

Seems like St Louis is a real class act behind the scenes.

If you read ont of the previous articles by Paul Stewart, Yzerman did in fact whine and female dog, he just never asked for a trade.

This is a PR disaster for the Bolts. Somebody in authority should say something to bring clarity to this situation. I know it's not the way pro sports do things but in this instance I believe it's justified. After all, the Lightning produce a product that is bought and the product is being tainted with this nonsense.

He re-signed after his 2009 "request" so I won't put much stock in this beyond placing it on the old news wagon. It's not like his play has shown he was disgruntled and wanted out so I can't even point to that to give this much thought or merit.

However, I have to ask. I wonder if this is what Ek meant when he said this was Brian Lawton's team

Why is it justified in this instance? This isn't the first time a player has asked for a trade and won't be the last. The fans don't need to know at this point and management, if they are trying to make a deal happen, is trying to not get hosed in a deal.

Well I think that this shows that his unhappiness with the Lightning extends beyond the Yzerman snub. Like I said in the blog, he's performed incredibly well since 2009.

If he was truly unhappy then why re-sign? The only logical thought I can come up with is Marty requests trade in 2009 to which Lawton does not grant his wish possibly due to the ownership turmoil and/or pending ownership change. Vinik/Yzerman come in May 2010 to which Marty still has his pending request on the table. Yzerman knows the PR disaster he and Vinik would have if they traded Marty in their first few months, so to avoid this Yzerman "blackmails" Marty into signing the extension instead of being dealt to a team he didn't want to go to. The only hiccup to this theory would be I don't know if Marty's 6yr/$31.5M extension in 2005 had any NTC protection.
