I fear that MB is waiting too long. This win one lose one season means that teams are catching us in the standings. Better to be pro active then reactive.

too late for proactive. Everyone knows this team was never as good as carey makes them look in the standings. the proactive thing to do would have occurred last summer, not now.

I do love that they are calling up Beaulieu htough! get him some experience since he should be replacing Diaz by the end of the season. Tinrodi can replace Murray/Bouillon and suddenly we are younger and better

D pairings by the end of the season:
PK - Markov (who looks like a shell of the Markov we saw before being separated from PK)
Emelin - Beaulieu
Gorges - Tinordi
Drewski (lol)

Personally I would move two defensemen, I would trade Gorges cause I think he has good value and I think there're teams out there that would be interested. Diaz is a no brainer! Bring up both Beaulieu and Tonordi. I really believe that we need to have these kids up here before the Winter Olympics or at least by the time they get back to playing.

If Tinordi gets called up/Beaulieu stays up, both will be demoted for the olympics. No sense paying them or taking the cap hit for those 2 weeks.

As for Gorges, I think he's a good (overpaid) character dman for the bottom pairing. If keeping him keeps Price and PK happy, so be it.

The Habs definitely need to move some dead weight but it is so hard to trade your weaknesses for something that can help you. I think we should either go for a top six sniper and a defensive stud center or say good bye to a few players that are going through the motions and bring up some prospects to get them some experience. We are very weak when being forechecked. Very little back pressure except by Plekanec, Gallagher, Prust occasionally, Eller...sometimes........

I don't think you're trading Bourque, Briere, Gionta, Parros, Murray, Diaz, or Bouillon for anything to help you today. You're doing it to clear some cap/roster space and to bring in prospects to see how they handle the rest of the season before we miss the playoffs.

Yes, agreed! Hard to watch the team spiralling downward with some of the efforts the players you mentioned are giving. Oh well, the future does look brighter.

Lets just keep telling ourselves that

Bold prediction: Galchenyuk, Gallagher, Bealieu, Tinordi, and McCaron all hit their prime when Price starts to falter and Fucale is a bust. We go from no team but a good goalie to good team and no goalie

Wow! I started this thread with the question of should we trade Briere? At this point and after watching them spiraling, (spiraling is a kind word) the question should be "Who do we not trade?" Like stated by others, unloading our dead wood isn't going to bring anything that is going to make a difference on this team. I think we need to look at something bigger, something involving Plekanec or even Subban. The way Subban has been playing he is never going to see ice time in Sochi, and the money is going to ask this year I'm not sure that I would sign him. We will only get talent if we move talent, this team is starting to implode and MB needs to do something soon, very soon!

Subban is having normal growing pains. Keep calm on that front.

Plek is central to a team wanting to win now. He is a highly underrated 2-way player in the league. I'd be hesitant to move him if we want to contend in the next few years. That said, we won't contend so I'd float him out there. Eller too.

I'd look at Markov to ANA at the deadline.
Gionta to anyone looking for some secondary scoring and leadership (VAN?)
Bourque for another bad contract/potential change of scenery guy like Ruutu from CAR or david booth assuming they dont have more years left than bourque.
Diaz for a 2nd/3rd

The only players I'd actually pursue with Eller/Plek or whoever would be of the Kadri/kane variety. Someone who is young but for some reason, their stupid team is thinking of dealing them.

Beaulieu and Tinordi should be top 4 dmen in 2 years. There's room for changes with some possible free agents. It'll likely be more of the same until then.

Pacioretty - DD - Gallagher
- Galchenyuk -
Bournival - Eller (?) - Prust
Moen - -

PK - Emelin
Gorges - Beaulieu
Tinordi - Vet

Yup! Very serious. My opinion on PK is that he will be a very good D man if you let him play his game, and there lies the issue, this management will stifle him. If you don't let him flourish at his natural talent, move him!

I agree, a Kane, a Kadri, but you are going to have to pay. My concern is who are you going to get this summer on free agency. This team needs a real impact forward, and if you find him, you are going to need a supporting crew.

I don't even know what to say. This is ridiculous. How does trading an elite 24 year old d-man help any team?

You got me wrong, I love PK, and under the right management he will be an elite player. If you are not going to permit him to be the player that he can be then what is the purpose. He is a thoroughbred, an offensive D man with a lot of potential, why hasn't management traded or purchased the right partner to play and compliment his style. Instead the keep trying to break him to be a trotter. All I have been saying, as ridiculous as it sounds, is that if he isn't going to be permitted to be the player he can, as an elite D man trade him for an elite forward.

You know that MB is working the phones right now. I truly think that he was trying to lure Kane, Byfuglien from Winnipeg until they went on their hot streak.

Right now the lack of performance is on his shoulder. Wen he took over he said he was going to bet more character, bigger and yes more francophone. He did address some character issues landing guys like Prust but he certainly has not got bigger.

The stat was 21 players in the league 5'9 or smaller of which 5 currently play on the Habs. Only thing francophone he did was sign a washed up player to 2 years who had no business signing here.

MB has yet to put his indentity on this team and now is his chance. He needs to decide right now if they are buying or selling, contending or building for the future.
If he wants to build for the future then we have Gionta, Markov, Murray, Bouillon, and Diaz must be dealt. You cann expect more than 3rd or 4th rounders for most of those guys but Gio and Markov would fetch you a nice return. Make the hard decisions and trade them for some AHL depth because right now that cupboard is completely bare.

Call up Tinordi, call up Pateryn and give these guys some experience for next season.

Tinordi-Subban
Beaulieu-Gorges
Emelin-Pateryn
