Bill
I used to live in center city. A good friend and I used to walk across the Walnut St our South St bridge to go the Firebirds games. I too used to listen to the broadcasts, especially loved the away games against the " Beauce Jaros"
Was that John Mac Adams the broacaster ??

I used to bring a 35 mm camera in case to take pics and brought a flask of Kahlua, bought a hot cocoa. First level seats for cheap, hot cocoa with a shot in it, those were the days.

Also when they were in the AHL and independent the first years, I remember the Maine Mariners coming in with Terry Murray, the now famous Brian Burke with a full head of red hair and mustache, all the characters on that team from the 78 era Mariners........ sigh we didnt know how good we had it

I have been calling for #27 to be retired for quite a while. I'd also retire 88.

Hiya folks.

Great write up, Bill.

I have my uncle's old Philadelphia Firebirds jersey. Love the logo and colors.

I like the Flyers' # retirement policy--I hate when HoF or Wall of Fame awards get cheapened (cf. Mike Lieberthal and Phillies' Wall of Fame).

I wonder what will happen with Mark Recchi (and was surprised to see him gather only 1% of the vote--though I voted for Lindros, too). The Recching Ball played more seasons for the Flyers than he did for any other team but won his cups in Boston, Pittsburgh, and Carolina. When he goes into the Hall of Fame, I wonder what colors he will wear.

IF he went in as a Flyer, would the Flyers consider putting #8 in the rafters?

Maybe no one cares about the Firebirds?

I attended several Firebird games in the 70's. It was an interesting thing. I remember they had chain link fences instead of glass around the end boards.

Right Back Where We Started is my hockey song, just like anyone else who ever saw Slap Shot.

I also voted none on the poll. Unless someone gets elected to the HHOF. Lindros has an outside shot when you compare his numbers to others who are in. But I doubt he gets in.

I don't have a problem with limiting retired numbers to those who are inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. I just think it's time for 88 and 27 to be in the Flyers HOF. And they honored Hexy with a night, which was nice except for the commemorative poster having blue eyes. It's time for E's night.

If they do a Lindros night, the cheap tix will be selling for $400.
