Here is to hoping that our current management and scouts have the same eye for talent that The Thief displayed.

Oh, and.......FIST!

Exemplary article, Bill. Growing up, Keith Allen was nigh revered at our house because of his contributions to the Flyers. I hope the team once again rises to the level of his successful 70's & 80's teams.

Without Allen, the entire history of the Philadelphia Flyers and the post-1967 path of the NHL would likely have been very different. More importantly, in his 90 years on earth, Keith Allen has attained the sort of professional and personal success, and earned a level of admiration and respect for which most folks can only dream.

This is 100% correct.

Good stuff, Bill.

Half the squad will be in Toronto playing the Leafs, the others will be in Philly playing the Caps. Both games are at 7 pm

I wonder if Giroux will play in any of the preseason games.

Bill - I'm not sure what else there really is to add about that blog except to say again how extremely lucky we are to be able to read your blogs every day (even during the summer when news is so sparse). There is not another regular writer that I have come across in any media outlet (print, web, etc) who offers the incredibly deep knowledge of and love for the Flyers that you do! You quite literally sustain us through the long summer. Thanks!

let me second that and say this...

Bill,
you've written so many fine blogs it may soon be time to put together your faves in a book. much like ray Didinger's One Last Read, something along the lines of Bill's Best Buzzes would be a tremendously worthwhile read and a keepsake for the buzzers here who realize you'll inevitably be moving on to bigger and better things.

oh how we've loved those days

<-- This guy will make sure Bill never moves on from HB! Any contract Bill signs must be a) with the Flyers, or coverage of flyers. b) must have a blog.

Actually, I'm good with the schedule and I'm good with having at WFC. The fan thing they are setting up sounds like fun and I'll probably take my kid to that.

Going to see them at Voorhees when it's a packed house ain't that much fun (at least for me).

I can't believe that someone actually wrote an article about this. With all that's going on in the world and all that.

But an article on Pavel Datsyuk hating gays or some non-sense.

I'd advocate Bill writing for any team. I'd prefer, if we were to lose him, to let him sign with a team with a decent chance at winning the cup.

Meet the Flyers will be at Xfinity Live.

And sorry about the blog on Town Hall. This weekend, unless I have another unexpected anesthetization. I do admit to being better able to comprehend why someone would enjoy twilight sleep regularly. Very restful.

Agreed.

I'd be happy to chip on green's fees so he can play golf again if that's what it takes.....

Well, this one should at least spark some debate: The top 10 goalies in Flyers history

1. Bernard Marcel Parent - Well duh!! Don't think there will be any debate bout this one! Back to back Vezina and Conn Smythe Trophies, 2 cup rings and a spot in the Hockey Hall of Fame pretty much say it all. At his best, Bernie was just about unbeatable.

2. Ron Hextall - Tough call here between Hexy and Lindbergh, but I gave the nod to Hexy mainly due to length of career and his amazing play in the 87 playoffs. A Vezina trophy and 3 straight team MVP awards didn't hurt either!

3. Pelle Lindbergh - If only.... He had just come into his prime when tragedy struck. I still get choked up when I think about him today. Probably would have led the Flyers to a cup in 86 too (sigh)

4. Pete Peeters - Peeters had a great rookie season in 79-80, and some nice moments in other seasons too. It says a lot about Flyers goaltending since the Hextall era to have Peeters #4 on this list.

5. Roman Cechmanek - An enigma to be sure, but his regular season numbers were just phenomenal. Would have been interesting to see what he could have done in the postseason if the team in front of him actually scored a goal or 2.

6. Wayne Stephenson - Often overlooked since he spent most of his time backing up Parent, Stephenson did a very nice job in the mid to late 70s, especially during the 75-76 season. Was outdueled by Ken Dryden in the 76 finals, but hard to really hold that against him.

7. Doug Favell - Favvy backstopped the Flyers to their 1st ever playoff series victory in 1973. A streak goalie, when he was on he was great, when he wasn't he really struggled.

8. Bob Froese - Frosty gave the Flyers some very good goaltending from 1983-1986, but he just wasn't a top #1 guy like Lindbergh or Hextall.

9. Brian Boucher - Boosh had a great run in the 2000 playoffs and who could ever forget the shootout of 2010. In between he had some moments, but was mostly a back up for the bulk of his career.

10. Marty Biron - Biron's solid goaltending really helped stabilize the team during the 07-08 season, but he was never the kind of guy who could take a team to a championship.

Just missed the cut:
Uh, no one really, the list really is pretty weak after the top 3. Hopefully in a few years either Mason or Emery will be shooting up the chart!
