Good morning Bill
Do you think there is any chance the Flyers try to package a prospect(s) and/or a future pick along with the 41st pick to try and get a 2nd first rounder? It would seem like this would be a really good year to have multiple 1st round picks.

I don't know much about hockey... but I am higher on Tye McGinn than most people seem to be.

In his games with the Flyers he showed that he knows his role and he has the tools to play that role effectively. I can think of multiple instances where he was controlling the puck and withstood a body check without losing balance, and the hitter ended up falling down. He looks strong and smart out there, with decent skating ability. For a team whose young forwards lose a lot of board battles, McGinn's skillset is very valuable.

I see Nick Cousins as the next Steve Downie, who I really wish we had held on to.

As much as I want to leave some roster spots open for the kids, I REALLY HOPE WE BRING GAGNE BACK!

Great work per usual! With the Flyers missing the playoffs, unfortunately the next thing we have to look forward to is the draft and the subsequent roster tweaking period beginning on 7/1.

Regarding the G position, I originally thought Bryz would stay for 1 more year with the Flyers protecting Mason a little as he hopes to regain his Calder form. Now I wonder if they might be inclined to buy out Bryz now, keep Briere, and opt for a lower level starter to accompany Mason (admittedly an non-optimal scenario). It just seems like Bryz is almost trying to accelerate his buyout. On top of that, it is a lean year in free agency. I'd hate to see them overpay for a the best of a weak crop.

Is there any merit to this thinking?

If there's a player they really want to move uo to get, then yes there's a chance.

Do you see there being a chance that the Flyers would trade the 11th pick?

Briere's cap hit is exorbitant relative to his contribution.

I'm a huge fan of Danny B's, but he's likely gonna get bought out.

I completely agree but if there are no better options at F, they can't acquire the top pairing D they need (which isn't going to be easy), and they buy out Bryz, they could keep Briere for another year and buy him out next year. They should only buy him out if they absolutely need the space to fit another player/address another need.

Thanks for the research Bill. I've heard people talk about how bare our prospect cupboard is and looking at that list I can see why. We only have a few guys who may with luck reach top level. Kinda scary when you think about it. All of our really great players are already on the team...
I really hope they don't trade away our first round this year. We need someone solid coming in...

A small chance, yes, and it could equally likely be to trade down a few spots rather than to move into the top 10.

The decision to buyout Briere has to be made before the draft, and before July 1. Which is when player movement is going to happen. They can't wait and see if any moves are available, and then decide to buy him out.

Doesn't the concept of trading down go completely against their rule of BPA?

your thoughts on them not signing suellentrop?
seems to me they should be trying to hold on to any decent defense prospect...

Not if you feel you can get the player who you feel is the best player available by trading down. While adding another asset.

Depends on what's being exchanged, and how high they are on players lower on the board.

If you ask me, other then Couturier, I'm not a fan of the recent drafts. As a matter of fact, I would rather Hamilton over Couturier. I'll give the 2010-2012 draft a generous C-.

The fact that the cupboard is somewhat bare with defensive talent and that they won't give this kid an ELC is telling about the kid's future, in and of itself.

Or, it could be telling about the Flyers' scouting process with respect to defensemen.

Thank you for the news on this......and for the accompanying heart attack it gave me upon reading.

Someone please lock Voracek in an ice rink/gym until training camp begins please?

It's all good.....

....it's just that news of a player having an accident in a sports car does not bring pleasant thoughts to Philadelphia sports fans.
