Be worse for Nurse

Having said that, I hope they re-sign Gagne for next year.

Sure would like to see Mason start. But I'm not surprised if he doesn't, since Lavy seems to be a poor judge of when to give his goalies a night off.

Also, when was the last time the Flyers and Isles played a meaningful game this late in the season? Late 80's I bet.

Bill, I'm not sure if you wrote about this, but what are your feelings on Mason getting any games the rest of the year?

I think Bryzgalov should (and will) get the Islanders game. After that, it depends on where the Flyers are in the playoff race. I would not have a problem with something like a 5-4 split of the remaining games depending on the circumstances.

Fair enough.

My personal feeling is that Bryz is not, at this point of the season, stealing any games. Nor do I think that Mason would crap the bed if he started.

I'd give Mason tonight's start, and then alternate them the rest of the year.

edit: the point being, I'm looking for the hot goalie if/when we get that 8th seed. plus, I have a good feeling about Mason.

We can go 7-3 if we beat the Isles in regulation twice.

No playoffs. Not happening. Play mason and let Reese coach him up during games and at practice. Let him get his feet wet in Philly.

It is, and if they win it then the next game becomes the biggest of the year and so on.

Out of curiosity, how do Mason's numbers look in the shootout.

Until they lose one...and then it's doubly important on the next one.

My personal feeling is that the Flyers should play to the level of where the Goalie doesn't need to steal the game. If they have any prayer of making the playoffs. I don't know that a Goalie not stealing games is a reason not to play him. We also don't know what Mason is going to do in a game.

Even more so, needing the Flyers to beat Isles to keep them off the Rangers back. When was the last time that needed to happen, 1990?

Middle of the road, but he was really good in his rookie year. Hasn't played in one this year, but last year stopped 6 of 10 shots and went 2-2

In that era for sure. Maybe 1993 or so?

I'd guess that, if we play Mason, he will don goaltender pads and keep, for the most part, to the area around the Flyers' crease.
