Like a broken record I'll say it again. They need to come out and play a physical game. Knock Tampa around get people in front of bishop and play good neutral zone defense with stamkos and st Louis. They do that they win the game.

Just need to savor this playoff race. BUF is also heating up and TAM has Bishop, but hopefully we will keep playing into May.

Just to continue this from the last thread, from kencan98:

I agree with almost everything you said. I want to point out two things though. First, the NHL draft isn't there for the AHL roster. You fill the void in the NHL roster first (if you can) and then the left overs get passed down. In 2008, they didn't do that. They passed up on Schenn and in my opinion it backfired.

At the time, I'd have agreed with you. There's nothing I like more than a big, mobile, defensive defenseman. The problem with Schenn in specific is that it appears that his 4 million dollar talent unfortunately comes packaged with a 50 cent head. Having many family members who are Flyers fans (far too many ), I watch them often, and this kid takes some of the dumbest penalties- not even penalties of aggression; he just does things like dump players right in front of the ref, after the whistle, when 20,000 people are watching him do it. The problem with defensemen is that if anything, they are usually the ones who aren't ready coming out of junior. This kid has the size- we'll see if he develops the smarts.

The second thing is your PS. We rushed bailey because "we didn't have anyone else to fill the damned roster". Others are saying we should take the exact same path with Strome. I'm saying try something different since rushing prospects obviously has never worked for us. That's been my whole point during this entire discussion. Don't ruin any more talent when you have a line that can at least stay afloat until the talent is really ready.

I agree- but again, extenuating circumstances have caused us to rush players since Snow has been in charge, unlike the former situation during the reign of King Dinglebury the Impatient. Nino was rushed because we had no options in regards to developing players in his situation in our own system, other than to do what we did. That is a result of the stupid agreement between CMJH and the NHL. That said, as soon as they could put him in Bridgeport, where he should have been last year, they did so. Bailey filled a need (we barely had enough players to actually fill a lineup card, at that point). Strome, as I see it, should get a shot to see what he can do- but I agree it should be for a handful of games, until it's obvious he's ready.

Take the kid Lee, for example: he scored a gift goal in his first game, but if you watched him actually play, shift for shift, it's clear that he's another one who needs to spend some time in Connecticut, and I'd expect he'll start there next year, along with Strome.

None of this discussion really matters though because 2 years from now when Strome is Bailey #2 because he was rushed into a position he wasn't ready for, no one here will admit that this discussion ever took place. Just like the Hedman talks.

Yeah, I was one of the people who initially briefly considered Duchene, myself....until a friend of mine in Canada basically told me we'd be absolute fools not to draft Tavares. Much as we needed (and still need) defensemen, I've got serious reservations about drafting a defenseman first overall, unless he's Denis Potvin good. If you have big man who is not afraid to get his hands dirty in the corners, has a brain in his head, and can skate, you can make him a good defenseman. You don't need to waste the first overall pick on that.

And again I'll bring it back to my original point on page 3 (or somewhere around there) - the only two UFAs the Islanders should be focused on are Boyes and Nabby. If they sign them, look to fill voids elsewhere but until they are signed those two should be the only focus.

I agree 100% on the goalie- two more years of him should make the transition smooth. I'm just hoping we can do better than Boyes this off-season. He'd be nice for insurance, and depth, but I'd really like to see us FINALLY make the push to get a forward who has the skills to be a true star on Tavares' wing. I believe Wang and Snow owe at least that to this group, especially if they DO make the playoffs this year.

...and to reiterate....we cannot drop ANY MORE points to cr*p like Tampa Bay. There are going to be too many TOUGH games for the rest of the year to be doing that, needless to say.

I've been more off the board than on the board until a couple of days ago, but, who has discussed bringing Strome up now? Unless I missed something, posters were excited about him playing at Bridgeport, not playing on Long Island.

And...who wanted Hedman over Tavares? These seem like made up discussions to me. At least, from this board. Everyone was pretty unanimous in their love of JT. If anything, there were a couple (I'm talking maybe 2 posters) who wanted Duschene.

The Strome talk came from him being mentioned as one of the possible successorsto Brad Boyes on the first line next year. the main topic of discussion whas whether Boyes should be resigned to play on the first line next year.

This is very important, Potvin; that the Isles fans start showing up in force. They are where we'd hoped (prayed) they be this time of year: right in the mix for a playoff spot. It's time for the fans to show some support for these guys and sell out the building tonight. Be loud, be proud.

Let's Go Islanders!!!!

The fans will always show support, the problem is that most fans are tired of the Wang/Snow circus........
Plus most are a little disappointed that next year is their last year on the island.

I agree about the Wang/ Snow statement. I get that. But, if they get into the playoffs and win a round, (huge but, i know) at what point do we all say, "Maybe Snow is doing SOMEthing right?" Bear in mind i absolutely have HATED how they've gone about doing things as much as anyone on here.

As for the disappointment about next year being their last year here, I always look at it as it very well could have been, " Off to Quebec". Wang has failed us in so many ways, but he has secured the Isles staying IN NY. Is it ideal? No. But I'm trying to look at the positives more than the negatives with the move. Like not having that awful Nordiques symbol on the jersey.

I'm more disappointed in Nassau County and The Town Of Hempstead.

Yeah, I can only remember one guy who wanted Hedman, in all of the various dicussions I participated in. Most of the argument was between Duchene and Tavares, mostly because one or two Canadian writers said Duchene was better, and the woe is me contingent assumed that Snow would draft the wrong guy, whoever that might be. That said- once my friend used the word "bored" in discussing Tavares' last year in junior, I knew he was the right answer.

I think we need an upgrade over Boyes- be that Strome, a UFA, a trade, or someone else on this roster. He's too similar to Moulson, and Moulson is a lot better. We need someone tougher on his side of the ice for that line.

This may sound strange, coming from a fan of a team you're chasing in the standings, but...

GO ISLES GO!

It'd be great if the NYI made the playoffs, especially if it comes at the expense of the Rangers! Plus, people would have to lay off their wearisome Isle-bashing for at least a few months if they got in!

I'd love to see the islanders make the play-offs this year :D
I hope they win the rest of their games this season to stay in the top 8 ..but lose tonight haha

Islanders are definately good enough to make the play-offs and make a solid run, and they will have a great season next year

With that said, I'm still routing for the bolts ! go bolts!

I'm more excited about this team then I've been in years but I'm going to hold off on the snow has done an awesome job talk. He threw a bunch of waiver wire pick ups mixed in with a couple decent players and one elite player. To me sometimes things click in hockey even when you least expect it. Teams play beyond people's expectations to me more so than on other sports sometimes. This team is not by any means in the playoffs yet. I'm not going to get to ahead of myself. It's exciting as hell to watch meaningful hockey this far into the season don't get me wrong but I'm having a hard time giving snow kudos.I like to see some progress and we are all so starved for the playoffs but I still think this team has more holes than swiss cheese.

Happy to see reasoner not in the line up. Even though I'm not a fan of big tits he should be the choice. Lee needs to go to the bridge.
