The "true" standings of the teams (within the NE division) Today, at this time.

BOSTON----(P%) .769 - ( Chance will make playoffs ) 91.8 %
MONTREAL -(P%) .700 - ( Chance will make playoffs ) 90.6 %
toronto-----(P%) .625 - ( Chance will make playoffs ) 87.5 %
OTTAWA----(P%) .563 - ( Chance will make playoffs ) 68.5 %
BUFFALO----(P%) .406 - ( Chance will make playoffs ) 7.6 %

Wow, Montreal is 4th overall in the entire league, who saw that coming?

Does look like Buffalo is long shot to make the playoffs.

BOSTON----(P%) .786 - ( Chance will make playoffs ) 96.2 %
MONTREAL -(P%) .722 - ( Chance will make playoffs ) 97.2 %
OTTAWA----(P%) .632 - ( Chance will make playoffs ) 87.8 %
toronto -----(P%) .579 - ( Chance will make playoffs ) 82.1 %
BUFFALO----(P%) .342 - ( Chance will make playoffs ) 0.7 %

Despite what the newspaper "standings" say, Boston is still the best team in the NE Division.

Ottawa has managed to leap frog past the leafs by winning their past four games, and Buffalo is probably looking forward to next season already as they would need to mount one of the biggest comebacks in NHL history to get back in the playoff race.

Ottawa managing to stay in the playoff hunt, thanks to a lot of depth from the AHL and the coaching staff preparing their players for whomever their opponent is on a particular day.

Humm,
After seeing the game last night... It seemed like the Habs were playing a Pee-Wee team with an NHL goalie. If they always play like yesterday they won't make the playoffs for sure... Can't have the luck on your side every games.

The key to Ottawa's success with so many first line players out of the lineup, is that their AHL team teaches and plays the same system that the NHL team does. When any player gets a call up, they're not lost, and fit in quite well.

Hey, just like the old days when Sam Pollack would call up players from the Habs farm team.

Buffalo is pretty much toast, in terms of making the playoffs.

They'd need to win more than 16 of their remaining 27 games, in regulation, and pick up a handful of "loser" points to even come close to the 8th seed. There are just to many teams to pass, six, and to few games left for them.

First Cowan, then Speeza, and now Karlsson. Injuries are part of the business of the NHL, so no use whining or feeling sorry for themselves.

The Senators are in year two of their re-build and these injuries will give some of the younger players more playing time in situations they may not have been ready to take on full time, but have to play through, and use this situation as a learning experience.

If the coaching staff keeps the team focused on the big picture, they may still qualify for the playoffs, but it may need some changes to their current system with this many key players out for the season.

**********************************************
Looks like there could be a lot of "call ups" from Binghamton in the Senators lineup Saturday night vs the leafs, maybe as many as 9 (who started the season in the AHL) so it looks like it should be a cake walk for the leafs

Habs fans went through this last year. Lost markov, Gionta and had a bunch of other injuries. This year Habs are healthy and so playing well. Guess it shows that teams are only as good as the depth they have to overcome injuries. If you lose key players you're screwed.

Could not agree with you more. Markov makes a huge difference for the Habs, and should be the leading candidate for the Norris at this point in the season.

The loss of Karlsson is showing how important he is to the Senators.

But of course you're stating the obvious. Spezza finished 4th overall in overall points last season, while Karlsson finished way down at 11th overall.

But I would like to point out that Karlsson actually finished tied for 3rd overall in assists, and had a better +\- than Spezza as well.

I could also point out that the Power Play basically dropped off the map once Karlsson was injured. Spezza is important to the Senators as he makes the other players on the ice better, but Karlsson's loss is just as great as Spezza, but compounded by the fact that Spezza was already gone for the the season.

Even though Ottawa has managed to lose their last five games, all in regulation, their playoff chances are still quite healthy.

The ref handed the Lighting a 1 minute 58 second 5 on 3 power play on one of the worst calls I've ever seen.........and the goal scored on that 5 on 3 PP basically cost the Senators a point or two.

Stamkos performance on gonchars penalty was laughable as well. But as Maclean said the players lost the game, not the refs.

I did not review that penalty (PVR) as I was disgusted and I agree the players are not playing up to their earlier season standards.

It's just frustrating watching then squander PP opportunities.

Pretty much assured that, in the last year of the current division make up, 4 or the five teams will make the playoffs.

Buffalo has played well enough lately, but are just running out of games, in a gimmicky 48 game season.
