Recently? I don't recall one around here. Last summer there were a couple of highschool kids lighting garbage cans on fire and nearly burned down three houses.

Out by Mayerthorpe they just busted one of the volunteer firefighters for starting fires. They think he was the one to burn down that railway bridge. That old creosote filled wood doesn't need much to light up like Marty

I was in Lloydminster and Cold Lake today. Holy (frank)balls. Everything was yellow and grey from the smoke. I just pulled the plug and drove home. Gave my hotel room to some displaced family with a few boxes of cookies.

Apparently we're getting some rain up Fort Mac way the next day or two here so hopefully a few nieghbourhoods aren't destroyed. Looks like Fallout up there man

I can't believe what's happening honestly. How does that city not have fire breaks? It's literally surrounded by wilderness in every direction for 200km and sits on the biggest oil deposit on the planet?

1600 buildings destroyed and it's still growing.

i would hunt boars for hours and then go torment the town just riding back and forth from the gate to the other end piling up bodies.

Places don't plan safeguards for a disaster until they've had one

I know a few firefighters who've gone up there the last day or two and I guess they're just trying to do whatever they can to take out fuel sources for the fire. Saw something about a bunch of Mexicans and boys from Colorado(?) on their way up to help.

This was the size of the fire yesterday if it was in Edmonton.

Like the size of the city and nearly two counties.

If you want me to take anything to one of the evac centers let me know. Me and a bunch of guys from work are scrounging up all the extra sample stock we have to take to a few of them tomorrow.

Donated thru my work. My company, union and federal gov all match the donation so it's like 4x.

Also slave lake burned to the ground in 2011 and nobody did anything in these other towns since for prevention. Unreal.

I'd forgotten about that Slave Lake fire.

Apparently Athabasca area is in tough too.

I remember years ago it was either Hinton or Edson that got real close to burning down and they're defence was "well its mostly on the other side of the road"
