I'm hoping for a resolution today too. But it is true that the Nash move has only increased our want and need of weber. I'm really hoping they take the picks instead of our players. Go flip our picks to other teams

Yeah, probably a little bit. But the Flyers, IMO, are at the point where they can taste Weber, so they'll probably be willing go an extra mile to make sure it goes down

Im not Bill, but IF the Flyers land Weber and do it by way of "Gratton Trade" I think it would only make sense to try and land him.

Agreed. They need some BIG contracts to get to the floor. Why not go after Bowmeester and some veteran leadership? Maybe get a legit 1st liner for once.

I am now.. All along I have been saying (frank) Poile... call his bluff. Now I cant get over the idea of having Weber on the dot for the next century.

My observation, people with a financial perspective says Nashville must match. People with a sporting perspective say they won't match. A lot of people thought Vancouver was a destination point.

I still think Nashville wants to do the deal. I believe the cone of silence reflects that all sides have a pretty good idea exactly how this ends.

Unfortunately I think that will mean Mezzy or Jake. Not both tho like so many are predicting. I really don't want to lose Mezzy. He's underrated offensively in my mind and I think keeping him and Weber would really open things up all over the ice. I think he's primed for a bigger role in the coming years as well. With Kimmo almost done I just really don't want to give him, or any of he other defensive vets up

But yeah, I could see Jake and MAB going back for one of the firsts, and a later round pick if that would clear enough money for Doan.

I think its the complete opposite... People with any financial sense think its not a good idea for them to match, but people with a sporting perspective say they should and will.

And that's because, IMO, it's a bad hockey move to match given their tight budget.

How are they going to build a competitive team around Weber and Rinne if they have all that money tied into 2 players?

They can have all the meetings they want, the fact still remains the sam, if they could match they would of, IMO. This is your franchise defenseman there's no way you wait this long if you can lock him up. 26m in 11 months is a lot of money for any team. With the lockout looming theres a serious financial risk. Homer has them by the stones.

This is where I am.. work out a fair trade and everyone move forward. PS: I'd take Weber over Nash in a heartbeat regardless if we got him on the cheap like the Rangers did.

The loss of Prust also dilutes the sandpaper the Rags had last year. If you're a Flyers fan you have to hope that Kreider and Hagelin take their good old time in their continued development and the Rags miss some of the depth they had LY.

If the Flyers feel confident they can't match there wont be a deal and they will have to settle for the 4 1st. Homer tried to make a deal now he's going for the kill with no sympathy.

Bill, Rupp is still there. The Rags lost Prust, now Dubinsky. They did acquire Asham as well as Michael Haley. Neither as good as a hockey player, but they add grit.

There is no need for the Pred's to negotiate a trade...until today, when all 10 owners or their reps get together and look at the finances. If the Answer is No then Im sure Poile starts to Push the Flyers for their best deal....If thats better for them then 4 first rounders then thats the way they go....
But honestly the stakes are just to high for the Preds to let this guy go.
I think sometime today they announce they have matched.
I hope Im wrong.
They already know where Weber stands.....They know where the Flyers stand....now Poile just has to get his Owner (s) input. Shortly there after this saga is over.

It is interesting that the "financial perspective" keeps shifting on this. I forget which blog had a background on the Preds and the fact that the current ownership group has only just gotten the franchise out of the financial mess it was in. There are minority owners who have promised to poney up big money for the good of the team, but if the majority ownership doesn't want that debt on the teams books it is not going to happen.

Honestly it is a situation where they either have to match, or have to let him go. Makes no sense but that is the way it is. If they don't match, the message they are sending is that the Preds are going to be a second tier destination. If they do match they are saying that they are serious...but also that they are built around two players and no one else better want to get paid.
